Van Insurance Problems yet again
« on: July 19, 2021, 06:16:30 pm »
You can see my previous post about my problems with getting van insurance as prices have gone up so much for me.

Well its only got worse and i just dont know what to do.

I used to get Van Insurance for £500-£700 per van per year.  Happy days.

It's now gone up to £1500+ per van per year.  This is using Van Compare to find the cheapest quote, and also had quotes from A-Plan and Alexander Swan all coming in for like £1500-£2000 per van per year.

What in the hell is going on?  I am so confused.  All the other window cleaners i'm speaking to including ones with 3-4 vans on the road all tell me they are paying £400 per year per van......

What am i doing wrong?????

My van insurance is to be renewed in 2 weeks and i honestly feel like crying at this point.

Now if all of you on here are also paying £1500 per van per year then happy days i will happily man up and get on with it.  But everyone i speak to says they are paying £500 a year give or take a few hundred.  That is why is making me want to tear my hair out.

Normally i keep my cool with everything, but i am actually really annoyed and angry at this point.  I don't want to be paying £3000+ per year to have 2 vans insured.........

Just be to be clear this is with my insurance being aware that i have a water tank in the back whether its strapped/bolted down they are aware of the water tank.  They were aware in the past though and the price was much cheaper.

How much are you all paying lads? (if you dont mind me asking)

About to start crying, maybe the heat is getting to me cant be arsedddddddddd

£700  for me with Aplan. Renewed last November. Renault traffic van. I’m 33 years old with full no claims and 0 points on my license.

I could get it for as little as £400 but I prefer the service from Aplan.

Why do you think yours is so high?

Do you have no claims discount? Any accidents or points on your license? Do you have a really young driver on the policy?

If all insurance has gone up then Mayb I’ll notice in a few months, but I’m sure I’d of heard by now if it had doubled.

There must be a reason.  ???

£700 with A plan sounds decent.  I have 2 years no claims on one van and 6 on the other van.  No accidents or points.  Im the youngest driver at 28 years old.

I just dont get it.

itll be your age and not much no claims bonus.....£1500 sounds ridiculous though...id try at least 2 or 3 comparison sites if i were you...also martin lewis says to insure your vehicle 3 weeks before it runs out as this is the sweet spot for cheaper quotes apparently.....
price higher/work harder!

I just did a quick quote on confused.com for my pickup. Without a watertank declared the price was around £500, with the tank declared as a modification it went up to £1500  :o. Maybe we are starting to be penalised for having a water tank fitted?

Less than £200, fully comp with protected no claims, legal cover and some other bits and bobs if I remember correctly.

52, very rural, one truck is 20 years old the other 12. Both trucks still worth what I paid for them. Off road cover is a must for me.
Modifications - both for work and for off road use weren't an issue.
Full protected no claims on both + another non-commercial car policy with full protected no claims too.

Sounds like a combination of things but primarily an excellent broker who listens to what you need rather than just sells you a policy.

Slightly off topic but how have you modified your vans for off road use, E&M?

Slightly off topic but how have you modified your vans for off road use, E&M?

It's just cosmetic mods: Alloys and larger tyres from a higher spec version, rock pushers, tail bar, leather interior.

Getting off road use was the issue. I pick up my water from our field and initially, none of the insurance companies would cover me to drive across it. It was ludicrous!

Apparently,  off road exclusions are normal in insurance policies - worth remembering if you're not on tarmac.

Several companies I spoke to / argued with told me if I dared drive across our own field it would void the policy.

Eventually, I found Gladiator, who seem to operate from a common sense policy - refreshing.
