Van tracker that records mileage ?
« on: July 12, 2021, 01:20:59 pm »
Is there such a thing as van tracker that keeps a log of mileage done etc ?

Ive tried numerous mileage logging aps and they dont work properly, they miss trips out etc.

Was thinking about getting a tracker fitted to my van and wondered if i could kill 2 birds with one stone and find something that records all history etc rather than just showing a location?

google isnt beiong very helpfull atm, cant find what i need

Velocity fleet tracks my vehicles

it shows every trip during the day - time taken and milage with totals for that day

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

we use masternaut  for all of our vans , top service  to can do everything , from seeing where the fuel gaage  is to how many times they have opened the rear door  ,

there now doing  full  cams set ups , so not only do they work like dash cams you can logo in to them on your p.c for live footage again depends on how much and what package you go for

I had Ram tracking fitted about 3 months ago, it cost £420 fitted and no fee's for 3yrs, then £10 a month after.
Keeps track of everything, and holds information for 3yrs.

Might seem a strange question and totally surprised no one as asked already but why do you need the mileage and track your own vehicle?

Surely you can look at the dial on the dash and know where you are going without tracking yourself?

Just saying like...........

Thought that would be quite obvious, to log business and personal mileage so I can claim and keep a record for HMRC...

Don't really fancy reseting the clock and making a manual mileage log each day. Why use cleaner planner rather than paper.....because it makes life much easier.

Do you worry about being that accurate with your personal to business mileage mate?

Ive just bought a new van and decided not to put in through my company as its attracts a benefit in kind.

Its more tax efficent to pay insurance etc personally then claim the mileage rate of 45p back, hence why i want to log personal and business mileage. But yes i do worry as i like to do everything by the book and cover my back.

Few reasons i want the tracker though, firstly the mileage thing but i would also like to be able to look at how long im on each job during the day to be able to see where i can improve the round. On top of that if i employ again it will be usuefull to have. For a fiver a month i think theres quite  a few benefits to it and thats without mentioning vehicle theft.

That makes more sense, I was assuming you just being ridiculously cautious in your mileage split!

I’d have thought 90% of sole traders who also have personal car as well, never even think to make the split between business and social/domestic travel. I mean my van is almost solely used for work, but there are the odd trip to the shop etc.

In your case it’s very different 👍🏼

Do you not want to get the depreciation reduction on your tax bill? Have you run it by an accountant as there might be better ways to reduce your tax bill, plus I think there is something about 130% tax allowance for new plant and machinery at the moment?
