Re: Van tracker that records mileage ?

I had a tracker fitted for a few reasons.
First, I have a guy that is going to work a Saturday for me, he kows the van has one fitted. I had a worker 30yrs ago cheated me out of a considerable amount, doing jobs pocketing cash and doing jobs that I did not know about. Also my fault as I was to trusting.

Second, Theft I payed £350 a year to cover equipment in the van. I wont do that now.

Third, knowing how long each job takes.

Fourth, having GPS locations of each job were van was parked. This has been added to jobs sheets for all customers. Anyone can copy and paste in to google maps and drive too the job. On the work sheet there is a discription of what to clean on each job.
I was thinking ahead if droped dead  ;D my family would know were the work is. Also if I wanted to sell or franchise in the future this would be very usefull.

Do you worry about being that accurate with your personal to business mileage mate?

Ive just bought a new van and decided not to put in through my company as its attracts a benefit in kind.

Its more tax efficent to pay insurance etc personally then claim the mileage rate of 45p back, hence why i want to log personal and business mileage. But yes i do worry as i like to do everything by the book and cover my back.

Few reasons i want the tracker though, firstly the mileage thing but i would also like to be able to look at how long im on each job during the day to be able to see where i can improve the round. On top of that if i employ again it will be usuefull to have. For a fiver a month i think theres quite  a few benefits to it and thats without mentioning vehicle theft.
Do you not want to get the depreciation reduction on your tax bill? Have you run it by an accountant as there might be better ways to reduce your tax bill, plus I think there is something about 130% tax allowance for new plant and machinery at the moment?

The depreciation saved wouldnt offset the BIK rate and extra employers N.I rate.

With mileage if i do 100 miles a week it works out about £200 a month i can take from the company tax free, this would cover my fuel cost, ins, tax and will make some profit on top.

My current van is only cheap so its not worth it, if i was buying a brand new one i would have to do the math again.
