Sometimes this can be quite bad is there a way of improving it while cleaning it or is it best left alone and just clean dirt/grime

I can't say I've ever seen an aluminium gutter in our part of the world. We have a few old  houses with cast iron gutters.

In South Africa we had gutters made of galvanized steel in a basic box U shape.  A contractor had a 'die' that would shape the gutter from a roll of galvanized sheet. The width of the roll was the total of the 3 sides of the gutter to be made.  It would be made to length to each gutter run so the gutter wouldn't have any joins. They do this in Australia as well.

Oh yes it does

It’s referred to as oxidation it turns to powered white substance

Sorry tech lecture over!

I’ve never seen Ali guttering - it’s most likely cast iron

I let the rusty know there will be loose paint flake off and they will still look rank - thief choice

I think extruded seamless alluminium gutters is full term for the ones I'm talking about but there definitely corrode and if left dirty for long period corrosion does be very bad on them . I must have a 1000 photos on phone and no example I'll post one in next few weeks when i do a bad fsc

Thats strange Darran. In Ireland when houses were built in schemes/estates in last 20 years at guess id say its 50/50 whether pvc or alluminium. Pvc defo much more popular in last few years no doubt . Cast iron very rare and you get the odd old black plastic half round jobby

Nope never come across it, lots of galvanized stuff

I'm surprised there is lots of it about esp. when you compare the costs against plastic

Look forward to the photo's

Its actually cheaper and handier/quicker to work with than plastic (for a start no brackets are needed), unfortunately Tom when they corrode the paint flakes off making them look  terrible when cleaned. I tell the customer this before starting.

The white blotches in the top picture are what I tend to come across.

might be easier to work with

certainly not cheaper - looking on line its approx 3x the price of plastic

You must be thinking of cast aluminium, as you can see below  the material costs are about the same but when labour is added
the plastic costs more.

Techy lecture back - aluminium cannot rust as it does not contact iron or steel!  Oxidation is the process iron or steel rusts.  However, aluminium does have a rust like corrosion which is normally encouraged when exposed to water hence unusual in UK to have gutters or drainage parts made of it but  is used in Australia and the year long hot areas of USA as it is cheaper and lasts longer when you purchase on a roll and have a former mounted on your vehicle.
