Monday knock the door can you leave till later in week the step on front door has just been cemented, ok no probs, knock today, hi ya, Oh could you leave today we have friends in conservatory, I said well the water is on the outside .

Had enough of sh#t customers, I just walked off, did there gutters and windows six weeks ago, everything still looks clean so they probably thought we can skip, im going to put there price up by a fiver, that will see them off.

I've always knocked the door first for most, I think putting there price up a fiver will dump them  anyway, I have I reckon about 10% of customers  that are so annoying, just wont pay till last minute or treat you like poop, it gets me down so much, have decided in August to go canvassing and get new customers and replace them before I snap .
Haven,t done canvassing for along time so not looking forward to it but cr*p customers no rephrase that cr*p people are pushing me into being doing this twenty years now and some of them drive me mad, rant over, I do have great customers as well,  and it might have something to do with cutting out nicotene cheers

I used to knock the door when i first started as felt it was polite but soon stopped doing that as it mainly ended up in awkward conversation lol

Now i realise how much of a time waste it was and dont knock anyone, most get a text night before so they know im coming anyway.

Only time i might knock now is if its a new customer.

I have never knocked on a door before starting,
The Custies "contract" is for a set amount at a set frequency, I turn up and crack on,  If one stops me after I have started without a good reason they have to go. I think by knocking first they are getting the impression its an "ad hoc" arrangement which they can decline at this point, not a reguler fixed price service,
I would stop knocking first and just get on with the job on arriving.

I had someone cancel on Thursday because it was raining and alter to Saturday. I was raining today so cancelled them. The customer texted me
 "Please come today as we have visitors coming this afternoon and the windows are dirty"

Commercial work yes they sign a written contract , domestic yes again they are agreeing to a verbal contract , that’s explained in detail before any work is undertaken , obviously it’s not worth pursuing legally but it would stand up in court as a verbal contract . It’s best to just dump them and move on don’t need messers it be fair we rarely ever get this situation.

They are in a contract. The contract is a reflection of what was agreed at the outset. If the agreement is broken on either side then the other party has a choice as to how to proceed. Just because in practical terms a legal claim rarely happens doesn't mean that no contract exists.

Whether a window cleaner tries to enforce it is a different matter. A customer can do what he/she wants in most cases and a window cleaner can choose to what extent he/she will comply. And vice versa.

I learnt a long time ago to provide good (enough) service to satisfy (99%) of my customers. If they ask me to do (or not do) certain things that I don't wish to do, then we part company.

I'd just leave the clean until it's due next time, if it happens again you can decide to bin, or not. Certainly don't stress over it.

Some doors I knock and some I don't.

Sometimes I'll knock to see if the custy is out (then I can get round a bit quicker). But I'll knock and start working straight away, so if they do want a quick chat, i'll work and talk at the same time. I don't mind. You can do it without appearing rude.

Sometimes i'll start without knocking and if the custy comes out and says 'Oh I didn't know you were here', I just say 'Hi, I didn't want to disturb you, a lot of my customers are now working from home'.

Robbo thats another reason I do knock if not in can do a bit quicker, is there alot like me here or not I would say about 50% of my work is under priced, always worried about raising prices because I always have just enough work not to much and not to little, I put up price for four houses last week two of them by a fiver, next month im going canvassing and im going to get rid of these customers, the ones that are rude the really late payers, it ain't that many of them but they do stress me out.

Ask a solicitor they will tell you that verbal contracts are legally binding , one you have done the job a few times this will stand up in court as a verbally binding contract , but who is going to pursue joe bloggs through the courts for  a £50 window  clean , it’s not worth it dump and move on
