money for nothing
« on: June 22, 2021, 08:02:28 am »
I was working in the rain yesterday, I'm in a road where I have 2 houses next to each other.

I did the first house and was just about to walk down the driveway of house No 2 when the old girl comes out and pays me £15 and says...   " don't bother doing them in this weather but I will pay you because I know you have to make a living"

I did offer to put her in credit for the next clean but she refused and said no that's okay.

Good on her but that’s just how it looks I’m afraid in weather like that, like you’re desperate for the money.

I would turn up a few days later unannounced and clean them as I would never take money for a job not done …. Just the way I am.

It does m8 the only time I’ll turn up in the rain is if I’m doing a Facia or an inside and out clean when I can start inside on a big job,my customers don’t want to pay for me to clean in the pouring rain and I’m with them on that tbh.
It’s been said before you should be able to earn enough when the weather is workable to worry about having to clean in the pouring rain.

NWH can you tell me why is it that often you always try to belittle people on their comments?  It's no wonder you are unpopular on this forum.

secondly I am definitely not desperate money far from it, when  I said it was raining, it was very light in fact I did not get wet at all, it was the lady who suggested leaving them on this occasion and rather that than the old saying "not today" which I hate.

lastly unlike you mate I will not dry 20 miles, see a bit of drizzle then turn around and go home, real men work in all conditions.

complete and utter nonsense !
I live in one of the wetest  parts of the uk.
It can rain almost everyday some winters.
Jay didnt say it was pouring with rain, he said it was light rain.
personaly I dont work in heavy rain, because I dont like getting drenched
but light rain or drizzle no problem at all

Some window cleaners in the uk forget that we all don’t have the same weather patterns.

I’m in Scotland and it’s been a really dry spell recently, but typically, a week with 4 days of rain is nothing unusual. If I stopped for the rain I’d be forever behind schedule, customers would get fed up not knowing when I’m turning up, and everyone’s windows would be filthy when the few days of good weather showed up.

If I lived in an area with a few days of rain a month then yes, I’d work around it, but it’s not possible.

Now, I’d rather work the rainy days so I can take the good days off and do something outside. Bit of rain didn’t hurt, and most importantly it doesn’t make windows dirty. I’ve been working this way for 15 years now.

I always work in the rain, and I would never allow customers (no matter how good) to dictate my schedule.

Where I live, it’s very rainy. A few months ago, out of 20 working days in the month, it rained on 13 of them.

You get to a certain point in your business where there is no longer a choice. I’ll be taking on a couple of employees this year, and there’s no way I’d have them stay off because of the weather, paid or unpaid.

The old proverb wisdom hangs true here : “whatever NWH says, you should do the opposite”

A wise man once said “Save for a rainy day” I think he was someone that had customers that didn’t like him working in the rain lol, regardless of the end cleaning result cleaning windows in pouring rain is frowned upon on the whole maybe not by some but by many.
I plan my work after countryfile it works everytime

Complete load of rubbish. The weekly weather forecast they give on countryfile is often inaccurate. I find the weather outlook for the week can change on a daily basis, it is not usually possible to accurately predict weather that far in advance.

Although I will say their weekly weather forecast is more accurate than your posts.

I dont really have morals in my business, its just business... in it for the money not for fun so i would gladly take the dosh for doing nowt, ive been ripped off enough times so happy for the karma.

Although i do work in all weathers and would probably dump her if she kept refusing to have them done when it rains  ;D

Countryfile is pretty accurate in a lot of cases it always works for me if a day looks dodgy I’ll plan something round that if it happens to be fine so be it,if they say it’s in all day on a certain day I try to sort something I can do when it’s raining but you won’t catch me going from job to job in the pouring rain ever.
I sit it out of course between showers but I never work in prolonged rain you shouldn’t need to if you plan ahead.
