Brake fluid should be changed every 3 years as it’s hydroscopic  and absorbed water , and yes coolant should also be changed every couple of year and system flushed to remove sludge that forms , for someone earning 50k per year you seam a right tight wad 😂😂😂 none on theses things  cost more than an hours earnings , you obviously don’t have any mechanical knowledge as anyone who has will tell you the same .

Makes no difference how many miles you do a year to a degree I would change it every year at least on a new van,on a older van you want to change it every 8-10000 and fuel filter every other change.

Again this is rubbish.....garage said fuel filter is good for at least 90,000 miles....absolutely no need to change them on a ford for a very long time,they are long life filters....I might get mine done when van reaches 10 years old though...

Again I'll listen to the mechanics not window cleaners!

Who is telling you this  is it a main dealer or some back street garage , as what they are telling you is wrong , I was speaking to a  service manager of a local ford dealership    today and told him what you said in your post last night he said low mileage vehicles should have an annual oil  change , it’s obviously up to you as it’s your van but for  long reliable life of the engine it should be done same with 3 yearly brake fluid changes it’s not mileage related but time . Again it’s only £60-100 which Ime sure you can well afford it’s false  economy not to do it in my books .

And it’s tax deductible so depending on which tax band you’re in, the cost in real terms is a lot less.

Hang on I’ve just read that again Daz a fuel filter is good for 90k miles 🤣🤣🤣 what a complete load of 💩 that is and I can assure you that is nonsense m8,I had major issues years ago so much so I changed the air mass meter and other sensors etc it was all down to a clogged fuel filter as soon as the fuel filter was changed it drove like a new van.
I was advised to change the fuel filter every other service and it drives way different after the fuel filter change,i also always use premium diesel I never use the cheaper one.

You are wasting your breath he’s not going to listen and that’s his choice I just feel sorry for anyone that buys his cast offs as they will be the ones picking up the problems .

People who do little mileage should still change their oil regular if you travel little distance to the first job the oil will hardly get up to temperature,do this every day of the week you may as well stick ice cubes in with the oil lol do most of you actually get the van up to 90-95 degrees during the day with the little miles you do 🤣🤣

NWH , modern oils are very thin as the engines require it , they still lubricate very well when cold so temp is not a massive issue . 

I would still change it every year personally , just for peace of mind .

All decent garages should check the brake fluid with a hydrometer to see what the water content is and change when it reaches a certain level , you will notice a huge difference in the brake pedal movement if it hasn’t been changed for years when you do change it .

ive just checked the ford manual and it is indeed 90k miles interval for a fuel filter for my connect van.....ill never reach 90 k miles even if i keep the van for 15 years!

i also never drive around with low fuel...i always fill up when i get down to a quarter of a tank......

the kangoo didnt fall apart....i had it for a few years and sold it on cos i needed a bigger tank.....it was 14 year old with 126k on the clock when i sold it.....gearbox was a bit dodgy though!

really?its not as if i dont get the oil changed fairly regularly....its more like 18 months than 2 years but its not bang on 12 months every year as theres no point doing such little mileage....

brakes and tyres get replaced when needed and any other little things that need doing,i will get the cambelt replaced after 10 years most probably....

even at 10 years old my van will only have 30k-35k on the clock!

If I were buying a van and saw it was owned by a window cleaner, I’d be steering clear unless it was an absolute gem.
Van’s close to it’s payload limit most days, stop start driving, too cheap to maintain it and probably had a few hundred litres of water spilt in the back over the years…keep your milage, I’m going elsewhere

i get where your coming from mate.......

however if you have a van from new then obviously the low mileage over the years will mean less wear and tear overall compared to someone who does 15k miles a year.....my van with have around 15k on the clock by jan next year and itll be 5 years old.....

Gearbox oil changes on my Ranger are pretty important if you want them to last, otherwise, bits start falling off.
Both gearboxes need the Auto Transmission Fluid fluid changing about every 50k or few years - despite being manual.
If you have anything Automatic then 40-60k or five years is very important even though the dealers will tell you, "it's sealed for life Sir", and then charge you about £3,000 for a new gearbox.

Oil and oil filter changed 12/11/20 and just double checked mileage and it's just about 2000 miles.

Bobbed into the local mechanics I use regularly today and they said no way oil change at that mileage....they said whoever carried out the service prior to me buying the van had not reset the oil change warning thingy.
