Transit Custom......every time I turn the ignition on the "OIL CHANGE REQUIRED" shows up but goes when I start up......is this a necessity or would it be ok to leave it......it was serviced in November when I bought it and has only done about 2500 miles.....the oil level is fine.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

Leave it....I usually change my oil every year but the garage said no need as I only do 3000 miles a year so I change it every 2 years now...

relay and boxer + my transit do the same if the garage forget to reel it - google it and it will show you how to cancel the warning

Did you check the oil when you bought it to make sure that it had indeed been changed.? There are some unscrupulous dealers out there who make false claims about what work was carried out during the service. My Custom will be 2 years old at the end of July and that is the oil change message just being displayed now, so it seems strange that your oil warning message is coming on after only 7 months

As long as you’re sure the van doesn’t need the oil change, turn the ignition on (don’t start the engine) and then press and hold down the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time for about 30seconds ish.

Personally though, I’d be taking the  van into a dealership as the warning light shouldn’t be coming on so soon (assuming the 2500 miles you mention is from new).

If you bought it second hand, there’s a good chance you need to change the oil…
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

It’s more important to change the oil more frequently with low stop start mileage as it puts far more sulphur into the oil , causing it to go thin and give less protection to the engine , an annual oil change should be done regardless of mileage it’s not expensive for oil and filter change , about an hour and a half’s earnings 😂😂😂😂

Its BS mate....my van uses fully synthetic oil...its good for at least 15000 miles whether its stop/start driving or motorway driving...

I'll listen to the mechanics on this rather than a bunch of window cleaners!

All your doing is wasting money changing oil every year and causing more environmental damage.....

Believe what you want  but it’s true I was in the motor trade for 16 years , all oils degrade over time  and short journeys are far worse that long ones as the engine is not at a stable operating  temperature the oil doesn’t give the proper lubrication , and it gets contaminated with sulphur and carbon much faster , but obviously you know best

Fully synthetic or not oil should be changed at mileage or time whichever is soonest - and that's only if it's the correct rate - which most garages don't use.

But Daz - it's your choice, but as you are planning t keep the van for a long time I would have thought £60 extra a year to safeguard the turbo alone would have been a worthwhile cost.

If you have one of the current Boxers and Relays since 2007 the service interval can't be reset using the driver's controls. It has to be done by Peugeot or Citroen's computer program.  All we can do is cancel the warning as you say.  I don't think the majority of non dealer workshops have scan tools that will reset the service interval either.

However, from what I hear Ford and VW have had their ECU's well and truly 'hacked' and most of what dealers can do can be done by DIYers.

Makes no difference how many miles you do a year to a degree I would change it every year at least on a new van,on a older van you want to change it every 8-10000 and fuel filter every other change.

Again this is rubbish.....garage said fuel filter is good for at least 90,000 miles....absolutely no need to change them on a ford for a very long time, they are long life filters....I might get mine done when van reaches 10 years old though...

Again I'll listen to the mechanics not window cleaners!

How many times did you used to hear people say that a Diesel engine or that particular  Diesel engine will go on and on for years the same used to be said for Honda petrol engines, they only keep going if you look after them and service them regularly. An oil change is cheap for most vans and the oil is its blood 2 years is a long time between changing if you’ve done hardly any miles or lots of miles.

Who is telling you this  is it a main dealer or some back street garage , as what they are telling you is wrong , I was speaking to a  service manager of a local ford dealership    today and told him what you said in your post last night he said low mileage vehicles should have an annual oil  change , it’s obviously up to you as it’s your van but for  long reliable life of the engine it should be done same with 3 yearly brake fluid changes it’s not mileage related but time . Again it’s only £60-100 which Ime sure you can well afford it’s false  economy not to do it in my books .

ive never changed brake fluid either on any vehicle ive ever had in 32 years of driving!its BS....its just not needed.....

i suppose next your gonna say you need to flush the coolant system every few years too....again ive never done this either..... ;D

all the main dealership garages will try and get you to change your oil every 3000 miles as its more work for them

People who do little mileage should still change their oil regular if you travel little distance to the first job the oil will hardly get up to temperature,do this every day of the week you may as well stick ice cubes in with the oil lol do most of you actually get the van up to 90-95 degrees during the day with the little miles you do 🤣🤣
