How to bring extra water
« on: June 19, 2021, 09:53:33 pm »
So I recently got my 2 man 650lt system fitted I wanted an 800 but was talked into the 650
But it isn’t lasting long enough for the two of us I think about 800 would be perfect

I am getting a tank for the garden to fill so I can top up when I am close to home but on days it I can’t nip home I need to carry extra water

I was thinking of bringing 6 25lt barrels in the van to top up with

My question is about transferring them into the tank I havnt enough room above the tank to pour them in so can you get a small enough transfer pump that will fit inside the hole in the barrel

Anyone else need to bring extra water like this what way do you get it into the tank

The only pump that you will get to drop into a barrel is something like this ?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324073870990?hash=item4b744ed68e:g:TG8AAOSwURheSB3z
Connect it to a single small 12v battery so you can disconnect it quicker to stop it, its not a run dry pump though. Just a idea 4 u.
Good luck

I wouldn't faff - if your going to carry extra water then change to an 800 ltr tank - or learn to use water more economically

Great advice there darran I hadn’t thought of trying to use my water better or getting a bigger tank lol

But I am looking for a quick cheaper fix to do me while I get my other van set up then having a 650 in each van should be more than enough for single operators

Add a 150 litre tank along side your main one and link the two before the pump, saves transferring the water to  the big tank when a union tee before pump will solve the problem.

Why did the fitters talk you into a 650 litre tank? Was it anything to do with the van's payload limitations? If so then adding 6 drums of water will create the same problem as having an 800 litre tank in the first place.

If the van is overloaded and is involved in a serious accident, as an employer, you leave yourself very vulnerable.

I have one of those pumps but they aren't the quickest of transferring water ,you will have time to eat a couple off sarnie s before first bottle is empty 😇😇😇

I have a 500 tank, but carry 300 in barrells (which i tip in) on the odd occassion i have someone help me.

800 is barely enough for a full days cleaning, we once ran out with 900 lol

If you are going to work 2 man all the time then get a bigger tank, otheriwse its faff, even worse if you cant tip barrels in imagine.

We use 650 tank each day and very rarely we run out. We run on approx 30 on the dial. If we have a big first clean we can pop back or another idea would be too buy a back pack do use can utilise the barrels.
Best idea is to use the water more economically.

If the van payload permits and you have room buy a 200 litre tank to run alongside it.....just uncouple from one and couple up to the other instead of faffing transferring from one to other.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

800 litres is a lot of water a day.   400 litres is about £300 in revenue on domestic wc for me. ( I have a 400 litre tank )
so 800 litres would be around £600 and I am on the lower end of earners living in wales.

my first look would be at why you are using so much water on maintenance cleans
on the days my son or daughter works with me . I carry 3 barrels , and 4 filled back packs .

i can nearly drain my 500l tank in 5 hours some days, other days i might work 6 hours and still have 100l left....depends on what work im cleaning.....i use a univalve too and flow on 40-45 on my controller...

IMO if i was employing a guy to work in my van with me id need a 1000l tank and a mercedes sprinter or some other large van with a big payload.......
price higher/work harder!

1 of you start off using barrels and a back pack on a trolley for the first few hours.

Either ….. fill ur pockets up with water or pick a smaller tank up say 100L - 175L and set a pump up with it, if u don’t use it some days it’s there for tomora but beats messing about with barrels and having to change them

I know you said you haven't the space to empty barrels into tank, how about a syphon pump £15 , as long as barrel higher than water level

If you're earning enough for two of you, then don't faff around. Sell the 650 (everybody wants a 650) and get an 800.
