I understand that on a DI only set up the pump should be placed so that it draws water from the tank and pushes it through the double di tanks rather than trying to suck it through the vessels.

Just planning/ setting up another van for a two man set up  and the only way I see of sticking with di only means having two sets of double di vessels - so one pump/controller/double di for each line?

If I fit a 1 micron and carbon block filter on the incoming water would that reduce the TDS enough to just run one di vessel per line so I don’t have to buy 4? Our water is less than 70ppm out of the tap. And The Spring controllers have a TDS monitor that shuts the pump down when it rises to 8 ppm so you don’t have to keep an eye on it when you’re cleaning large hotels etc for hours on end.

Our two man set up is: tank - pump - DI - DI - Y splitter - reels.

You'll need a 100psi pump for two reels off one pump. We've been doing it this way for 15+ years without issue, yes you get a bit more pressure off one reel whilst the other is unplugged but it's not a problem, pumps will need replacing more often but we're still talking years.

A double DI set up is to save resin, no other reason, a carbon filter won't help.

As soon as you get 001 out of bottle 2 move it to position 1 - it then feeds your refreshed bottle 2 with semi purified water. By the time bottle 2 is giving you 001 you know that the resin in bottle 1 is totally spent.

If you have only one di, whether you have a prefilter or not, you'll be chucking resin away that's still partially purifying the water to 8ppm when your pump shuts off.

Or just fill the tank with pure in the morning ? thats what I have been doing for years.
another option, which I think is easier.
is one man using the reel. and the second man using back pack.
you can use a transfer pump to fill the back pack, takes seconds.

I can't see why you would need 2  DI vessels in the van.
Leave the other one at home to fill the tank and one in the van if you ever need to fill up when you're out like we do sometimes.
When the TDS starts to rise above 0 take that vessel out of the van and change them over.
I have a 22 ltr in the van and an 11 ltr to fill the tank and a spare vessel in case they're not exhausted and I can fill up another vessel with new resin for the van and just run the other two down in turn.
The 11 ltr usually gets up to out of the tap TDS quicker than the one in the van.
I haven't had to change the resin in the vessel in the van for about two years which is great because it's a bit of a PITA.

delighted to see this is possible as I always assumed pressure would be an issue with 2 draws off of it. Cheers

We use a pressure / flow controller and it's never set much past 60-70%

personally i would DI my water at the end of my working day and not have any vessels in the van at all...keep it simple.....

Great info guys thanks, plenty to mull over there. We need more water than one fill so I’d rather be able to fill with tap water out and about and purify as we go, we currently have a 25K DI on a trolley which we bought years ago  for inaccessible bits of a castle with no vehicle access and the guys are merrily burning through resin blastin water through it to fill up tanks and 25L containers.

The ionic van as far as I can see is a pain in the arse as it takes so long to fill and 2 of them emptied it easily after a couple of hotels and a string of holiday let’s today. I have since discovered a booster pump would be a good idea but not sure which to get.

there’s a good argument to say get a bigger van and tank but I’m not the only one holding the purse strings  which can make life challenging!
