Customer says he paid by bank transfer
« on: May 04, 2021, 04:33:02 pm »
I have been cleaning the windows of this customer for over 2 years, he used to pay by cash, he sometimes was not in when I cleaned  so I suggested he could pay by bank transfer, he has done this a few times with no problem.
The last clean he was out but returned when I was cleaning at a neighbours, he said he would pay by bank transfer like last time, it has not turned up and he says it was sent. I have not had this situation  with any other customers so am unsure what the next move is.

On another note, he is often grumpy and rude to me, maybe his sense of humour. The bungalow is a mess, slippery decking at the front, a pallet for a gate that has to be moved and those big gas cylinders blocking the path to keep the dogs in, so I have to move 1 to squeeze by the rest so I do not mind losing him but I do want to keep the neighbour and his father in law who he recommended me to and I also want the money owed.
I am pretty sure he will lose me the other 2 jobs if I ditch him and I am low on work.

the great thing about electronic payments is there is a record if payments been sent.....if you ve not been paid it wont show on your(or his) account...knock on his door and show him....
price higher/work harder!

Ask him to screen shot the payment details he doesn’t need to give all his balance information etc he can crop that out,he should be able to do this on his app with the receipt feature.

If he’s paid you he will have a record of it I wouldn’t let it go get paid and dump.

Thanks all, so I need him to show me proof that he sent payment on whatever device he used.
I do all my online banking on my laptop at home and do not have my mobile set up for internet use.
I will knock on his door in 8 days time and be polite as I prefer to do things face to face and not get fobbed off with a text.

Ask him the date he paid you

Then ask for a screen shot of that day showing the transaction - just double check your account for that day and the 3 following day to make sure you haven't missed it

Ask him what reference he used as payment , i.e first line of address or surname? so you check your online payments thoroughly

Double check your 'money in', you could have missed his payment? I sent a text reminder a few months ago, she texted back saying hubby had already paid. He'd over paid by £2 and as I was looking for a lesser payment I missed it. Others will use a reference of 'windows', fecking priceless 😂
We look at them, they look through them.

He just needs to screen shot the details and you can check with you’re bank if he can’t do that he’s lying.

our standard line is...

We have had a look, but we're having problems finding your payment on our system. Some time s this happens as there are a lot of payments coming in with different references on them... Could you check and give us the date, the amount paid, and the reference you used so we can update our records and mark you off as paid.

I’ve had a couple of customers that thought they had payed me but had closed the app on their phones before completing the transaction.  So now when someone tells me they have paid and I don’t receive it, I just send a polite text asking if they can check whether they completed the transaction as I still haven’t received it.  So far this has worked on all but one account where it became very evident that the person was trying to stall, as shortly after I dropped them they moved apparently owing a lot of people a lot of money.

I’ve had this a few times, and invariably they have done something wrong.

One (long standing)  customer swore she’d paid, and in the 3rd time still no payment (3x£25) so I said we really have to get to the bottom of this, let’s look at the dates together.

Anyway, turns out she paid someone different who had a similar name and was set up as a payee.

She was apologetic and paid the full amount but I never found out if she got the other payments back.

I had this recently, a good customer was adamant she had paid me £25, gave me the date and reference etc.

Turns out she had paid the gardener (who happens to be a friend of mine and one of the tightest people I know) and she thought it was acceptable to let me know and let me chase him to transfer the money to me.  ::)roll

On the next clean I just informed her rather bluntly that it was her mistake and she now owed me 2 cleans, what she does with the £25 wrongly paid to her gardener was not my issue.

I've experienced this. An accountant's office I clean admitted that this was the reason why he thought he had paid me.
