how often do you clean?
« on: July 15, 2006, 11:05:19 am »
hi everyone, as a total newcomer , how often do you clean the windows. going off my w/c it is every 6 weeks. i thought this was a bit long in between!
is it also dependent on what time of year it is.

Hi,

When I first started out I would tell people that I would be around every 4 weeks... But, as I was targeting larger houses (£20+) I found that they didn't want to spend all £20+ per month on having their windows cleaned so would ask for every 8 weeks - which is a bit too long inbetween cleans.

So... Now I do every 6 weeks, and if someone wants to leave it longer than that then I charge them more!

4 Weeks for me too. If they say every 8 weeks i put 50% on top of the original price. Most stick to the 4 weeks after i mention the increase in price.  ;D

Whatever the customer wants, as long as I can fit it in the schedule.

I quote monthly and charge extra for 6 weeks or longer. One customer insists on 3 weeks which I can usually fit in OK.

Would there be issues if with pricing I were to run like this:

4 weeks 10quid
6 weeks 15quid
8 weeks 20quid

As you can see it is just simple addition re: weeks

Does anyone else work like this, would this be viable?

Cheers
Dave.

I cant see someone paying £20 for your 8 week clean when you are doing it for £10 every 4 weeks.

I tend to stick to every 4 weeks but have some larger properties every 8 weeks.

6 weekly for me.
I will do it less frequently for larger jobs - i.e. jobs that are large enough that it would be worth visiting an area especially to do their cleaning only.  I do try to discourage this though.

no ones mentioned once a month?

Unless specifically asked I run at once a month. I find this easier to manage from a turnover point of view.  I know feb will be a pain,  but its easier for me for accounting purposes,  as most of my 'life away from work' expenditure is based on monthly commitments.

also,  monthly tends to fit better with peoples outgoings in my area.  they all get paid monthly,  and only want a window cleaner 'hit' once a month.

If you do the maths as well,  if you say monthly,  thats 12 a year,  every 5 weeks is only 10 a year! by saying 4 weeks its percieved as 'less than a month' and can be frowned upon,  although thats only 13 a year!

Monthly,  and i then allow for a 'swing period' in my months planning for inclement weather.

I found that the main problem with being rigid about it are the seasonal daylight variations.  If I had a business I could service in a certain time during Winter, it would mean gaps in my work in the Summer.  Similarly, having a full Sum,mer workload means that I get behind in the Winter.  These days I just say 6 weekly but it sometimes goes pearshaped in the Winter.  Obviously my "A list" customers get 6 weekly all year.
