Van Door Open/Closed
« on: March 21, 2021, 07:37:18 pm »
I know it may sound small and dependant on where you are from but working out of the back of your van of all the people who leave it open do you get much theft?

I have often driven past windies and seen vans wide open and about four miles off the reel so no sign of the windies so was just wondering if their is much theft out their?

I'm a van open and had nothing stolen, i'm in Liverpool.

11 years always open - even in Yarmouth and nothing stolen

basically they only have access to fixed reels and a trad bucket - then the tank blocks off the front half of the van

Yes nothing in the back really worth nicking just more of a nuisance...front doors lock with back doors open so no problem.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

Doors open but nothing nicked out of the van but someone did attempt to pinch my ladders once but luckily had one of the ladder clamps padlocked.

I have a tailgate which is slightly ajar but locked using a pet clip which attaches to the locking mechanism allowing the tailgate to be ajar but locked.  Wouldn't dream of tempting a thief allowing van to be unlocked if out of sight of my vehicle, too many thieves around anywhere and everywhere, why tease them into temptation?

Working in a village near Leighton buzzard called Billington . You may remember it due to the slavery story a few years back.
Anyway I’m on a customers drive which is gravel and hidden by tall conifers working around the back.
Was round the back maybe 15mins , get to my van and two poles , gym bag, trainers , tool box , cloths, computer with bag( which was in the front), coat all missing !!
Obviously a bit frantic . Then a passer by tells me that some of my stuff is blowing around in the wind up the nearby park .
They didn’t want my coat , payment slips and invoice books but the rest was gone
I never ever leave the van unlocked for even a minute now

I know the area well - not surprised  ;D

seriously - thats the difference - there are no spare poles in the vans and certainly no computers or things to temp anyone at worst they may get 20 quids worth of trad gear and a cheapo tablet thats less than 40 to buy new

but the point is taken really its bad practice to leave doors open if and when your working out of line of sight to the van

Depends what you've got in the back. Cabs always locked and I have a solid steel bulkhead. I usually leave back doors open  when in  sight of the van and lock them when not. The only real value is my slx 25 and I'd be using that. Electric reels bolted down and I don't think any tea leaf would really be interested in scrims, bucket n squeegee and a couple of brushes.

I have left my doors open for years, everything is bolted down in my van, they can help themselves to a few mop and squeeges.

Van doors open. If some scruff wanted to nick a bucket and some trad gear good luck to him.

All these ones saying van doors left open is ok but should anything be stolen or damaged the insurance will be void  so just be  careful would  be my advice , I certainly would want to leave our vans open with everything on display .
