Hello all

Started my Fiat doblo multi jet 90
1pm today
-2 c and snow.

Started fine but couldn’t use gears ⚙️ properly

Basically could move gearshift forward and backwards

But the normal side to side movement
Neutral wasn’t happening

After warming van up for 5 minutes
Side to side movement of gearstick started to return but not perfect

Haven’t got time to warm up longer
Got to go walk the dog


Any ideas 💡
Is gear box on way out 🤦‍♂️

Most modern cars are front wheel drive so either have cables or linkages going from gear stick to gear box. If you are mechanically minded start at gearbox and check each link or cable to see if there is any play in them or if they have somehow got water in that has frozen.
Hope that gives you a clue?

sounds like moisture inside the cable and its frozen - my vivaro used to do this - mechanic disconnected then and sprayed wd40 in the ends - been fine for the last few years

I gave the van a good warmup
+ 5 minutes

Gearbox now feels like it should

I’m due a service in a month

So I’d say to mechanic
Check gearbox cables for water ingress?

And explain gearbox had no side to side movement ?

Just explain the problem to mechanic and say can he check and lubricate links and or cable.

The cables on my dispatch did the same. Had to have them  lubed.

Heres one you may be able to answer for me - got a Doblo a couple of weeks back  - it came on a transporter (no probs) but I have a tool bag in the cargo area with a jack, towing eye, wheel stop etc...

Why do you feel the need to take the P when someone is having a problem? I take it you never have any problems with your van? .....oh wait a minute, I seem to remember you posted not that long ago that you have a super duper mechanic on hand to get you back on the road  whenever it goes wrong.

No I don't lease and due to increase in staff ans window work I needed another van, didn't want anything big and a doblo looked good 64 plate - one owner (BT's openreach I think)

It's quite the enjoyable drive
