It’s the EGR valve !
« on: January 09, 2021, 05:20:41 pm »
After slipping into limp mode yesterday I took the van to a mate with a code reader , it came up as EGR valve stuck open , he reset the ECU and I was on my way again , a little lumpy but good enough to get home .
EGR is about £100 so not all bad , however , what a ball ache to get it out , then I saw this Wynns cleaner for a tenner in Halfords and thought it worth a punt.
Just do short sprays into the open turbo until can empty with a warm engine idling, not much happened but did get a couple of puffs of black out the arse end .
Then directed to go for a drive at no more than 3000 revs , still not much happened, then whilst accelerating away on a rather busy roundabout BOOM  ;D ;D ;D
This massive cloud of thick black smoke went everywhere, those poor people behind me :o
It’s seems to be running A1 now , time will tell as the ECU will not have had enough miles to register another fault quite yet , here’s hoping
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

I don't have much faith in computer diagnostics.
2 years ago our family car, a Hyundai iX20, was diagnosed with an EGR valve issue.  After having spent many hundreds £s on labour and parts the issue still wasn't resolved. Turned out to be two faulty injectors. Of course it was recommended to have all four changed @£400 each, and they weren't even Hyundai ones.
The computer never picked them up at all.  They had to be removed and taken to an injector specialist before the faults were found.

Well I’m still all good for now  , if it doesn’t ping back on within a couple hundred miles then I will get another can of Wynns and blast it again to be sure
