Saturday before Christmas 🤦‍♂️

My van is a Fiat doblo multi jet 90
2014 reg jan 2015 nearly 65,000 miles on the clock

And MOT. Due 31 st jan

I don’t know if van is a write off yet
Repair garage taking away for estimate on 4th jan

Damage drivers wing and door
No broken lights or bumpers

I owe £3000 to my Mrs on this van
So it’s mine

My question is if worse happens a van written off what would you do?

Always toyed with idea off leasing

I’m a sole trader

Like the new Citroen belongo 3 seats (2 and a half 😁 seats)

22k new to buy 😖

Basically any serious advice
Thanks

I live near new ulez zone which comes into effect October 2021

And can skirt around this as my round is not
In ulez

Thanks Lee
Hope you all had a better Christmas than me
😁

A better new year we hope 🤞

That’s correct Smudger as always 😊👍

So could keep and repair
Neighbour told me (ex mechanic)

Wing about £70
But door a bit crunched and doesn’t shut perfect

To add to the fun
My insurer has classed my van immobile
So can’t drive

Repairer can only offer me a fiesta van
Which is crap 💩

This is van insurance with Hastings direct and courtesy vehicle included

I won’t bother with this again on insurance

Just hire a van if worst happens again 🤦‍♂️

Argued about van but told only A class van obligated to give me 😖

if it just needs a door and a wing then it will most likely be repaired,

this happened to my 65 reg with 68k miles Doblo and it got repaired by insurance

best thing to do would be to go out and buy a brand new doblo and swap your system over and get back to work. my Doblo was back on the road after 2 months, took ages

you can buy a new doblo maxi technico spec so air con sat nav etc for under 13k brand new

www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/new/201804195707605?postcode=st161gb&advertising-location=at_vans&model=DOBLO&sort=supplied-price-desc&make=FIAT&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used&include-delivery-option=on&colour=White&radius=1500&page=2

With VAT it’s over £14.5k

Recently daughter crunched her 206 cc - front wing - door and rear wing all repaired for £700 on insurance - which I thought would be written off as the car is only worth £2000 - so fingers crossed

I agree these insurance replacements can be rubbish you have to triple check the small print

If it's only the wing and door then it's an easy repair. If it's damaged the A pillar (bit the door hinges on) then it may have damaged the safety structure.
I am sure a wing and a door can be had from a scrap yard (van recycler) for not a huge amount then they should just bolt on.
I would start gathering price info on same van and similar mileage from Autotrader as market prices have rocketed this year and if insurance company writes it off you want most money for it. If you have claimed then it's the insurance companies property!!! So be careful.
If someone crashed into you then it might be worth getting a claims advisor on board as they may help you claim loss of earnings or van hire costs.

That’s correct Smudger as always 😊👍

So could keep and repair
Neighbour told me (ex mechanic)

Wing about £70
But door a bit crunched and doesn’t shut perfect

To add to the fun
My insurer has classed my van immobile
So can’t drive

Repairer can only offer me a fiesta van
Which is crap 💩

This is van insurance with Hastings direct and courtesy vehicle included

I won’t bother with this again on insurance

Just hire a van if worst happens again 🤦‍♂️

Argued about van but told only A class van obligated to give me 😖

Not like for like
Genuinely not meaning to sound smug but, regards the courtesy van, this is why I insure with Alexander Swan. Or even A Plan are good I hear. It doesn’t cost much more.

Or have a crappy spare. For complicated reasons we've got a 2005 Combo with a system fitted. But it's a huge relief when a van is off the road. At least one every other month for one thing or another. For a sole trader maybe a trolley & family car?

They are a popular van buy it back off the insurance and get second hand wing and door might be lucky and find one the same colour again white is a common colour , or if you dint want the van get a settlement and buy something else ,

My system is very simplistic and easily transferable to another vehicle

Rectangular bucket contains power regulator, pump and car battery 🔋 sits in with

Barrels, reel, pole

Even if you rent a van now days, never have roof rack

Just use ladder for odd flat roofs
Surprisingly always need few times a week 🤦‍♂️

Thanks

I bought a crappy second van from Smudger about 4 months ago, 68K on the clock for £1500. Just put it through the MOT, £400. Great peace of mind and as a pressure washing vehicle.
