I agree if I was just driving round town there’s no way I’d bother with better tyres on the van but I’m not and I do about 60-80 miles a day,I’ve never noticed the ride quality improve so much than with the X Climates massive difference.
I’ve had the Goodyear’s they were rubbish lasted just over 3 months these X Climates are SUVs 50psi in the front 45 in the rear it floats along now.

Are you concerned that you may fail an MOT having SUV tyres on a van ?

I agree Robert. What a way that would have been for NWH to talk to someone. Disgraceful and embarrassing.

Of course it might be an exaggeration on NWH's part which is equally sad if so.

If Nigel is anything in real life like he is on here then I’ve no doubt he just goes round upsetting people and bragging about how incredibly rich he is.

In reality though, hes probably skint and gets bullied by his wife.

I had spot of luck about 4 weeks ago.   I went out at about 7am to start the day only to see that I had a left rear flat,  picked up a screw on the way home the night before.   Both rears only had a few months life left in them so wasn't too annoyed.   I called up all the local tyre places and only 1 had the size I needed in stock.  Pirelli's at about £180ish plus fitting etc.  More than i'd normally pay as I generally go mid range.   Rather then order in and loose another  day I thought just stick the Pirelli's on and crack on with work.  Doesn't happen all that often and don't let it ruin the week.

Anyway long story short,  they only went a replaced the fronts too!  Mine were only 6-7months old on the front and now I have a matching set.  I pointed it out as soon as I realised which was after I had paid for the rears.  I said you're going to want to change them back to mine aren't you and they said it would take too long (had others waiting) and would have to swap valves, rebalance and it was their mistake.  You drive off and pretend you didn't notice.  Didn't need to tell me twice!!!  Free front tyres!

Got to say though I'm almost  converted.  You can tell the difference in the tyre quality but for the amount of weight we carry it doesn't matter how much they cost, they're still getting chewed up by cornering and wear unevenly as a result.

The correct pressure is crucial when you carry the weight we do day in day out when I put cheap tyres on the van the under steer was laughable,we get so much wet weather here you can’t put a price on it.

I’ve always used budget tyres for the van, and as said, only 2 new front tyres in 4 years.

Never had a problem with grip, because I don’t drive it fast, and with 750l onboard, the weight of the van keeps it stuck on the floor.

Obviously I fit commercial tyres, but always budget ones. Rears are still like new, and they’ve been on there since 2013.

There is absolutely no way you’re going to notice any difference in performance in a van when poodling around with a tank full of water. None what so ever. I have never ever had the ABS cut in on wet, cold, or icy days. Because we just don’t drive vans fast enough. We window cleaners drive them sensibly knowing we’re full of pure water. Plus, it’s a van! It’s not for racing around.

Sure, premium tyres might last longer, but that’s about the only thing you’re going to gain.

Unless you drive very fast and brake very late in the wet, you are not going to know what rubber is under each corner.

Bet you a blind test would prove that.

The car, that’s a different story, as i drive it quick. So the rubber needs to meet that demand.

I found budget tyres would make the van roll and slide on roundabouts and scrub themselves out. I guess some people used to get away with re- moulds ...... do they still use them?
Funny how people are willing to spend thousands of pounds on a heater and electric reel but will scrimp on basic safety ( tank fitting) and tyres.
Funny old world!

No remoulds anymore and as for scrubbing out and going straight on round a roundabout that’s what I’m talking about,of course if you don’t do the mileage you don’t need expensive tyres if you’re back tyres are still like new and the traction control light hasn’t come on in decades you are probably the people we all curse.
I’m driving on busy roads and on one particular section of road i travel along it’s like a graveyard so I want to be able to stop with over half a ton in the back,I think people are confusing driving round a town-village not on man’s roads 🤣🤣.

When your driving with 750l you don’t drive fast.

I save fast for the car, not the van

I have never bought a premium tyre in my life , I always go in and say middle of the road please , can’t fault any I have ever purchased .

Have just done all 4 in November at a cost of £220 all in .
My previous mid range I had fitted to van when purchased did me 5 years and 30,000 miles
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

On a smaller van I had years ago the rears lasted a bit longer I would go through 2 sets of fronts before I needed to change the rears,it’s been a different game with the larger van even your Kwik Fits etc agree the mid sized vans  chew  through tyres, the manager told me it’s not uncommon to see someone with a Transit Custom or my van have to come back for fronts after 3 months.
I’m talking about 4-600 miles a week not so the van doesn’t warm up and get rid of the condensation in the exhaust before you start the first job.

£180 for a van tyre, thats insane  :D

I
I would have put some air in it and seen the day out with a slow puncture.

I had a tyre that needed air in every 3 to 4 days, i did that for months until it was completely worn out before i replaced it.

how fast are you going around roundabouts?this had never happened to me in my van...budget or no budget tyres fitted.....as for safety.....whos scrimping on safety?my van tank is secure and ive bought new tyres....just because their budget tyres doesnt mean their not safe!

all tyres have to pass safety tests.....

they dont make remoulds anymore.....in fact their illegal........

i think we ve got some tyre snobs on here for sure! ;D
price higher/work harder!
