ive done 13000 miles on my front tyres(good year).....last january they were an advisory on my MOT(close to legal limit)....im a bit miffed actually as i thought they would last longer.....

anyway MOT due again next month so thought id get them changed this afternoon on this horrible wet day....they only had the budget tyres in stock that were my size...so went with them(rovello 205/60R16)....£110 for both including fitting.....i usually spend that on one tyre!

I spend about £80 per tyre at my local place. So not top quality but I always change them way before the minimum tread bar. It really affects your breaking distance in the wet if they are worn right down.

No I feel buying budget tyres is false  economy they are your only contact with the road it’s never worth risking writing off a van for  a set of tyres , we always put on decent ones .

i have bridgestone potenza tyres on my golf but i drive that a lot more (and faster)......i only do 3000-4000 miles a year in my van

No I feel buying budget tyres is false  economy they are your only contact with the road it’s never worth risking writing off a van for  a set of tyres , we always put on decent ones .

apparently studies show that even premium brand tyres are not great once they are part worn......im not impressed with the good year ones...or maybe connect vans just scrub the front tyres more often?the back ones are fine(and probably will be for another 3 or 4 years yet with my low mileage)....

Yours is a lease isn’t it Daz? Just bare in mind they charge you £100+ per tyre if you send it back with tyres that don’t match their spec. If you’re paying for it at the end of the lease then obviously this isn’t an issue.

Ive always bought part worn tyres for all my vans and cars... i can get them for £20 a tyre at my local place. I also wear them down right to the minimum wear bars, i like to get my moneys worth.

My main issue with buying decent ones at £100 a piece is if you get a puncture in the wrong place its bye bye tyre.

Dont see the point in putting expensive soft compound rubber on a work van, sure a cheap budget tyre wont have as much grip but its a work van not on a race track, i barely get above 40 mph on my rounds.

That said on my motorbike i have the best tyres that you can buy, when theres only 2 wheels grip really is important!

I never buy budget tyres. I buy tyres online then pick a fitting centre. You usually get your pants pulled down if you just turn up at a fitting centre and ask if they have the right size of tyre for your van/car, plus they don’t have much brand options within their physical stock.

If i need 2+ tyres, i have a look on the internet (tyre shopper), the last two i done on the van was mid range avon's from national tyres, but i have put cheaper on. I only do less than 2k van miles a year as my work is within 4 mile area, and i just drive slow with a the tank in anyway. Different on the car, i go for the quality michelin pilot sport 3's, for motorway higher speed driving.

Nearly all modern vans now are front wheel drive and thats where the diff is too (on the front axle) . They'll always scrub out long before the rears and probably before they wear their tread down. Premium for the rears and budget for the fronts is the way i go.

you cant really go wrong with 2 brand new tyres for £110 fitted though.....also national tyres stock the rovello brand so they cant be that bad.... the tyre place i go is a 2 min walk from my home....

Might be worth swapping front to back etc when you get new fronts. So brand new on rear and old rears on front. Reason being is that if you never rotate tyres the rears might start cracking before you have used up the tread.

No I don’t do this anymore I went through 2 sets this year buying crap tyres that were 90 a corner,I was going to put a post up about this I now run Michelin X Climates they are the best tyres I’ve ever had on a van fantastic grip and they actually last. 145-150 a tyre just had them fitted a few weeks ago I spoke to the guy about them wearing prematurely and he told me that Transporters and Transit Customs all have a problem with tyre wear these days,he has a lot of guys needing new tyres on these on a 3-5 monthly basis.

how can you say they last when in the next sentence you say you just had them fitted a few weeks a go

Tried budgets once on the van, never again. They wear faster, scrub the outsides and don’t handle the weight.

I've settled on Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S for my truck and found them very good.

They're around £100 each which is mid-range price for A/T and considerably cheaper than BFG.

A very high silica content makes them extremely quiet, grippy and gets me anywhere I need to go.

I've had the first set for over a year and they seem to be wearing well too.

I had these X climates fitted I meant because the others lasted no time at all I had 4 Toyo tyres and they were absolute toilet during that hot spell earlier this year they lasted 2 months,I left the backs and got 2 Goodyear’s for the front they were pants and the Toyos I left on the back only lasted another 2 months,I’ve had these X climates on for a couple of months and they are brilliant tyres phenomenal grip when fully loaded with water and the ride is noticeably much better,the only thing that I’ve noticed with them is that they are a bit noisy in the wet but apart from that great tyres I’ll only buy them from now.
