It's have you got time to clean my windows why it's Christmas time of year.  Happens every Christmas, usually with the bad weather it's hard enough getting round to your regulars then you always get people who never get their windows done coming out asking can you clean their windows why it's Christmas, I usually say I'll only clean them if it's going to be regular.

The only time I might consider it would be at double price and I had nothing else to do , which of course is never the case

If you know it's going to be a one off then just quote them triple your normal rate. That way you get a nice Christmas bonus :-) As long as you have time that is.

In the past I’ve said I can come mid January they  just look at you like they’ve been sussed well and truly.

Me personally, I don’t do one offs. I am as busy as I want to be with regular nice and easy maintenance cleans. But if you are looking for more work and you charge accordingly, why not.

If you are short of work then that's different. As has been said, charge more for them.

If you are still short of work next year then you could always tap them for another one off. However there will be a time when you will have too much work to bother with them.

If you've got the capacity to do it then  it's extra money if you haven't then someone else will step in and do it. If your always fully booked then maybe it's time to think about extra staff time to expand. How about taking on a temporary worker to keep up with demand the weeks up to Christmas then lay them off the day before you finish for Christmas?

I've had 4 enquires this week for one offs, I'm not interested in them , I've got more than enough regulars to keep me going, I'm having a good culling spree  over the Xmas break

I do one off cleans at any time of year providing I've time and it's worth my while. Xmas is no different. I've some well paying jobs that have become repeat "as and when" cleans as opposed to strictly one offs. Not run of the mill £20 semi's that are too tight to commit to a regular clean. Don't see the problem myself but do them or don't , what's it matter what anyone else thinks.

Never said that.
I don't let any of my regular customers know that. I don't advertise it at all.
The ones who have become "as and whens" were given "one off" prices because thats what they initially asked for and pay for each time. The fact they call me maybe 2-4 times a year to book me in is their own doing. These jobs are larger "stand alones", several have good reasons why they are not routine regulars and all pay a good hourly rate for it. Not having all my eggs in one basket has worked well for me. Providing I've notice to fit them in its a nice little bonus , especially in run up to Christmas.

I don't do one off Christmas cleans as I'm too busy.
However, I've been leafleting for the last 5 months (refining my round and culling) and the response has been far better than I expected, even though about 50% of enquiries are rubbish!
My leafleting guy is excellent, so I want to keep him employed as much as I can.
Inevitably, there will be some 'one off Christmas cleans' in the mix.
Let's see if i'm good enough to pick them out.

A one off clean should just be like a maintenance clean for you and your super duper scalding hot water, don’t you keep banging on that it cuts through everything in no time at all?

If you have enough work why on earth would you take on stuff that’s not going to be there in the future,you do a 1 off and charge 3-4 X so what when you can go down the road and maybe earn the equivalent for a flash over a regular job.
If it’s not regular it doesn’t get me interested the only time I’ll do this is if I’ve had a customer build a house and they want me to clean it up for when they sell it,I had this recently I’ve cleaned it a few times for them a big new build,why would you chase 1 offs if you have plenty of work it doesn’t make sense to me.

I take 1offs all the  time if money's right never turned a job down yet even as and whens better in my pocket than theirs

I don’t do them but there is definitely a demand for one off’s all year round and more so in December. They can also lead to other jobs. It’s the fact that most customers won’t come out and say I just want them done once.
I ask them what service they want- six weekly, twelve weekly or one off. When they say one off, I reply “sorry we don’t offer that service”. If they then ask “why offer it then”? I say “it’s a qualifying question” ooh they hate that. Got that from a mate and it saves a lot of hassle.

I look at the house and the area it’s in and if it fits in with other work before I offer the time between cleans,ie I wouldn’t offer 8 weekly to a job I do down a lane in the back and beyond if I did next door 6 weekly I wouldn’t want to have to go out there again 2 weeks or so later.
