Can someone please recommend a reliable leisure battery I can use to power transfer pump, electric reel, charge backpack etc? Ideally under £100. Thank you

Personally with an electric reel you need a class 2 battery , 105 to 135amph with a CCA rating. Needs to be bench charged every night with a proper intelligent leisure battery charger.

I have just had my Numax 105 amp fail on me twice in 2 days after 4 hours 

I draw 35 amps from it each day , it has been bench charged every night since new 13 months ago .

So today cost me just short of £200 to get myself a new Numax 105 and a nice little Ctek MXS 5.0 .

Let’s hope I get a bit longer this time

It’s starting to look like a Numax depot now , but I got the same battery again as I do understand that I am after all a battery abuser 

Got the old one on recondition mode  now to see what happens  !

Banner energy bull, not the cheapest, but come out on top in most serious reviews.

I cannot fault mine, 3 years old and still holds charge. Powers electric reel and pump all day with no problem.

They are well over £100 though, but you pay for what you get... it will last, so saves you money in the long run.

I looked at the banner as it happens , but as I do rate Numax I felt that another chance was in order , and being as I was for once buying a tried and tested quality charger it would give me a clear answer .

Let’s not forget though that mine runs a diesel heater and pump non stop all day , however long that might be .

I will have my answer by January 2022

I use a 20 amp numax connect and forget commercial charger for my 2x 105 ah numax batteries..not cheap at around £100 but still going strong after 3 years....do you think one battery is enough richy with using a diesel heater?maybe your taking too much out of the battery every day?

Basically, combined my heater and pump will pull max of 7 amps per hour every hour so I’m looking at 35 a day normally with start up and shut down , that’s a third of my battery capacity , ideally it wants to be a quarter or less so as to not drag the battery down too far .
So I could either go for 2 x85 amp batteries or wire the pump only to the van battery  and keep the 105 purely for the heater ?
Other than that depending on how the recon goes on the old Numax  , I could whack the 2 105’s in parallel and see what happens, but that should only be done with 2 new off the shelf batteries really .

But back to the OP , any 105 amp battery will do what you want to do easily, I’m just not getting how you will charge a backpack with it ?

We have always had good service from Numax, hence the reason why I always recommend them. One thing I have noticed is that they haven't been NCC battery verified so am not sure if they are a B or C class battery.

I have just had to replace my leisure battery which would have been 7 years old in January. It was quite happy to run my pump all day.
I connected it up fully charged to a 9kw diesel heater and started that heater 4 or 5 times over the course of the morning. The last start saw the battery voltage drop to 10.8v.

I ordered a replacement Numax but no one I tried had stock. One tried to supply a class 3 junk battery in it place which I refused. Another sent me a Lucas Supreme which was a class2 battery with a CCA rating identical to Numax. Both Numax and Lucas appear to be manufactured by the same factory as the specs are identical.

As you say, time will tell for both of us whether these batteries are as good as they used to be.

These last few days I have been draining about 20 to 25 amps from my battery everyday so am back to 'bench' charging each night.

I do also believe that a standard leisure battery isn't designed for high current draw from say an electric reel, even although brief, and they fail prematurely. I'm not sure how a starter battery would perform long term with electric hose reels and or diesel heaters. Starter batteries are happy delivering high power for brief moments but don't do well with 'trickle' delivery.

The combo battery is a mix of the 2 designs so we don't expect them to perform perfectly in each role. But I would have expected them to last longer than a year tbh. I'm a bit disappointed to hear you have had to replace yours so soon.

When I start my heater I have the van running it’s starting with 13-7-14-5 volts,when I do this I never have a problem all day with it working I only do this for it’s initial start up then turn van off at each job as normal.

I mean, moaning about a virus that has killed nearly a million and a half people and been so damaging economically isn't the same as moaning about people cleaning with cold water, is it?
The OP didn't even ask about a battery for a heater but here we are talking about batteries for heaters  .
