Leaflet drops during lockdown
« on: November 04, 2020, 01:33:29 am »
Is there any guidance on leaflet drops during lockdown by the Gov. I'd also like to get peoples opinion on this.
I was talking to a few small independent shop owners and they agreed it would be okay, Im not sure.

The post man still delivers and home deliveries will go through the roof this month so I can't see why not.
Wear gloves if need be and change them regularly.

Can't see why not, just not sure it's the right time of year, but depends what services your offering

I've been leafleting 4.5k per month for the last 2 months and I am genuinely astounded at how much new work is coming in.
Also about 50% of the enquiries are good!
I shall continue leafleting every month, even December, mainly because the guy who delivers my leaflets is excellent, good value and I want to help keep him employed, ready for the New Year.
"Thank you for calling: if you have a 1st floor flat, mid terraced house, lots of dogs, no parking, no side access, or no sense of humour, please press hold!
For all other enquiries, please press1"

is the success rate about 1 / 2 % ?   ( on a blanket leaflet drop )

I have a good success rate when I hand deliver myself... but then I target certain types and avoid the types I dont like.
I also put a price on the back of the postcard for their property......(adding x amount extra if they have a conservatory}
I also put a first clean price down.
the thing is though that its a ball ache doing it myself after grafting all day.

I am thinking of paying someone to do a blanket drop next spring.
my other worry is that I dont like doing more than 5 first cleans a week.
its great that its working for you :)

It's, like, totally the wrong time to be leafletting.
You need to be reducing demand so that you can claim the grants.

It really depends on the area
First 1,000 got me about 20 enquiries, I just hit lucky!
The lowest 1,000 has been 1 enquiry
Average 1,000 is about 6-10 enquiries
But to be honest i've lost count as the phone rings, pretty much, every day.
I also have a good website and good Google ranking, so I do get calls off of those as well and that is additional to the above.
The downside is that windies are using Covid as a way of dumping customers, so you have to be careful not to pick up their crap!
I keep my costs low, I designed my own leaflet and my printing costs are about £30 for 5,000, delivered.
The trick of all of this, is getting the leaflets delivered and not put in the bin, I just hit lucky with my guy.

As for first cleans, save them up and do them on a Saturday.
Mrs Window Cleaner loves to go food shopping on a Saturday...make a list, then to Aldi, then to Sainsburys for all the other bits, then to the butchers for the meat (she likes a good bit of meat!). Clothes washing, bed washing (I've woken up before with no bloody covers over me, where she's stripped the bed)!!
It's a manic environment....so I work...I relax...I do my thing.

I love first cleans, you need 2 things:
1. A magic eraser pad, attached to a gardiners quick loq with a single strong elastic band. Don't make it look pretty or uniform, you need the odd bits sticking out to get into the grooves and crevices of the windows, great for getting black stains off.
2. Pink stuff, in a tub. Take the lid off, push the tub onto your brush and swivel it clockwise and anti clockwise, until your bristles are....pink. Cleans everything! And rinses well too.

You only like doing 5 first cleans a week...good luck with that, you should be doing loads!

same here ... from april through september , / october, I get about 3 on average  new customers a week from google and website.
I am top on google search within a few miles radius.
I dont realy need more work as such, as I have been doing it 29 years....
I am just trying to get more 8 weekly work at higher prices.
I know it sounds silly, but I cant say no if its good work , and I prefer to have too much work if it takes it away from the new start ups.

Wow, you should have a good round by now

Why focus on 8 weekly? If you have priced your 4 weekly work well,  then it doesn't matter on the frequency. It could be 4 weeks, 8 weeks or 12 weeks, as long as it's well priced who cares!
I know it sounds silly, but I cant say no if its good work , and I prefer to have too much work if it takes it away from the new start ups. Forget start ups, why do people worry about new windies! Focus on what you do, not what other windies do. If you offer a good service for a fair price and customers like you, then don't worry about other window cleaners.

yep. i do have a good round.  but  its always good to keep building at a gradual pace . I am also very strict with who stays on my list.
this is why I am never owed money. my debts owed never go over a week, and it never exceeds £50
however to get these type of customers, I have had to filter out a lot of weeds.
I dont worry about other window cleaners , but at the end of the day, I want the best work I can possibly have , so I continue to grow.
I am around 60% 4 weekly and 40% 8 weekly.
I find that with my prices , most new customers opt for 8 weekly.
TBH    I wish I had started off 6 weekly in the beginning , and had that as standard accross the board

Mine is mainly 6 weekly over the years it’s easier to filter out stuff you don’t want, the stuff I do 8-12 weekly is priced higher than it would be if it was 6 weekly although they are very similar houses to the 6 weekly stuff.
It’s very difficult to drop work if you’ve done things right in the past and only taken on good work as James says,I don’t know many window cleaners that say no to new work or at least look at I know I always have.

The removal of stamp duty on house sales from £125,000 to £500,000 has certainly livened the market up. I can't believe how many sold notices are up in all the estates we clean.

We have had a couple of deaths on our round this year but not affected us. I do expect the one Covid19 death to affect us later as I'm sure his wife will move back to where she came from and where her daughter and grandchildren now live.

Last year (2019) was the highest we have ever had for single owner/tenant deaths and old ones going into care homes.

We have another 4 on 'death's door' so never know if the last time we cleaned was the last time we see them. Mind you, that also applies from my side as well.  ;D
