The choice shouldn't be kill your gran or ruin your business.
That's not the case in countries with competent governments anyway.
There’s a very strong argument to suggest we sheild the vulnerable and the rest of us crack on with normal life, with precautions.
Why should everyone be in lockdown, when it’s the vulnerable that are at risk.
People then say ‘you can’t just shield the vulnerable’ - yes you can. It’s just not a ‘kind’ thought.
The fact is, the economy is totally wrecked. There will be mass unemployment. Huge 3rd party deaths as a consequence of people not getting the treatment they need.
There is no easy solution, but we have to ask ourselves the question, is destroying the economy, and mounting up astronomical debt, worth it in the long run, when this virus is going to endemic for a long time.
Sheild the vulnerable. Those that want to sheild, by all means, should.
The rest of us need to crack on.
I’ve got friends in the hospitality industry who are on the brink of collapse. Several pubs and restaurants locally have closed permanently. Many small businesses are letting staff go now. It’s getting pretty dire.
