Coronavirus V2
« on: October 19, 2020, 05:29:20 pm »
Looks like the second lockdown is upon us in Wales in the next few days.

Already had 2 cancels from customers who we've had for 5+ years who have never missed a beat, both telling me they are absolutely skint and on lower furloughed payments.

Looks like we may be in for a rougher ride this winter coming than what we had earlier this year.....

Good luck guys!  Let the cancels roll in!!!!!

I live in a seasonal town on the coast, so the economy here is absolutely trashed.............

Wish me luck

Iv mentioned this before joshman , your not going to get hundreds of cancellations. There probably won’t even be hundreds of job losses in your area , more like 20 people per every town in the uk will lose their jobs. Pensioners still get their pensions , the amount of people working from home now is crazy. There is a lot of business’s that aren’t effected at all and have got busier , insurance companies, stock market traders , Microsoft etc etc .
Adam is from Yorkshire (it’s grim up north) , everyone’s absolutely skint in Yorkshire (or tight) yet he’s managed to get shed loads more work since lockdown.

Twenty people per every town will lose their jobs? What are you basing that upon?

We need to worry about these ballet dancers retraining as window cleaners.
It only takes an hour, apparently.

Sorry not 20 , by August there were around 2.7 million people claiming benefits which is on average 55 people per every town in the uk.
Vacancies continued to increase , driven by smaller businesses taking on additional staff.

Early estimates for August 2020 from (PAYE) Real Time Information  indicate that the number of payroll employees fell by 2.4% (695,000) compared with March 2020.

There are around 67 million people in the uk , IF 5 million (example) people became unemployed , how much do you think it would effect you?

There are around 49,058 towns/villages/cities in the uk . 5 million unemployed people in the uk (if divided equally) is around 101 people per town. Do you think you are going to be very unlucky and have 101 cancellations? (1 man band , not multi van operators).

In Caister-on-Sea in Norfolk (never heard of it) , but apparently it’s a very small place - the population is    8,898. If 100 or 200 people were unemployed here , how much would it effect you?
London has a population of 8,907,918, if 1000 or 5000 people became unemployed here , how much would it effect you?
Something to think about .... anyway , there’s always a few people who cancel in autumn/winter because they can’t be arsed having their windows cleaned for a while. I wouldn’t think too much into it , just carry on cleaning 😃

Too be honest im not worried about losing work as i run lead generation and canvassing business so i can just go mad and get tons of new work in if i have too just like Adam did recently.

Im more concerned for my local town.  I live in a seaside resort town and its a ghost town here.  There was already problems with jobs in winter as its a seasonal town but now even non seasonal businesses are closing down here so alot of people will be losing their jobs.  Hospitality industry is massive in my hometown and its literally on its knees.

So i know for sure numbers in my town will be very high....

As i say though truth be told i aint worried ill just bang out some lead generation if i have too and let the customers roll in.

But if you look at the bigger picture- there are nearly 700k people living in north Wales .   I’m sure you’ll be ok , especially if you do lead generation 👍

With one recorded death in Wales today, and an average age of death cases at 82.4 years old, you can see the need for another full lockdown.  The best course of action is to throw more businesses under the bus and put more people into unemployment  ::)roll ::)roll

I think there'll be another national lockdown.
I reckon they'll move everyone to tier 3 rather than tier 3 regions going back to tier 2.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that but I can only see things getting worse before they get better.

To be fair, i think most of window cleaners seemed to have done really well since lockdown.

However that was summer time, the furlough and self employed schemes were in full flow, people were treating it as a holiday working from home or on furlough. Also there was a sense of community spirit, people wanted to do their bit to support the small business, i know a few of my customers were keen to show their support....

However this second wave could be different. Its getting dark and cold, generally people are more miserable, the furlough schemes are ending and the holiday period is over. People are facing redundancies end of this month (my dad is waiting to find out if he still has a job next week). People are getting fed up of covid, theres less community spirit about it. When push comes to shove people will look after number one.

Dont be surprised if its a hard few months ahead, but then dont be surprised if its not.

Just keep going. We might be snowed in for a month, who knows what winter will bring.

The choice shouldn't be kill your gran or ruin your business.

That's not the case in countries with competent governments anyway.

There’s a very strong argument to suggest we sheild the vulnerable and the rest of us crack on with normal life, with precautions.

Why should everyone be in lockdown, when it’s the vulnerable that are at risk.

People then say ‘you can’t just shield the vulnerable’ - yes you can. It’s just not a ‘kind’ thought.

The fact is, the economy is totally wrecked. There will be mass unemployment. Huge 3rd party deaths as a consequence of people not getting the treatment they need.

There is no easy solution, but we have to ask ourselves the question, is destroying the economy, and mounting up astronomical debt, worth it in the long run, when this virus is going to endemic for a long time.

Sheild the vulnerable.  Those that want to sheild, by all means, should.

The rest of us need to crack on.

I’ve got friends in the hospitality industry who are on the brink of collapse. Several pubs and restaurants locally have closed permanently. Many small businesses are letting staff go now. It’s getting pretty dire.

Correct.
They'll have to extend the furlough and grants if they lock people down. They'll have to find the money because not doing so could be even more disastrous.
If one man can refer to $400 million of debt as a "peanut" then a country like ours shouldn't go under.
It's a pity that we've burnt a few bridges lately.

You can't just shield the vulnerable; it's nigh on impossible.
It's ok for most window cleaners because we should be able to continue working but many others can't stay away from the vulnerable.
And the economy is not totally wrecked. I know of a way of wrecking an economy with a virus though. Let it rip through the people that make the economy.

Full lockdown ruins the economy

Going about life with zero restrictions kills way too many people.

Given that, it makes total sense to find a balance and protect the vulnerable and the rest of us crack on.

Minimise deaths whilst minimising the effects on the economy.

What else can we do but ride it out and wait for a vaccine.

There were 12,374,440 people aged 65+ in the UK in 2019.
But there are 14,843,119 people who lived in a household with someone aged 65+
Additionally (in England alone) there were 2,240,850 patients on the Shielded List - though some of these over 65, so there's some overlap).Trying to isolate and supply food to all these 15-16m people while the virus spiked would be a monumental undertaking, & much like a hard (6 month at least) lockdown for a large part of the population.  It’s not clear how we’d safely supply them with food?

You're right.
You can't separate public health and the economy; they are dependent on each other.
We are the economy, so the government has to look after us and our jobs.
They'll just have to stump up the cash so that there are jobs and people to do them safely when we can control the virus.
If they don't, they can retrain to do other jobs.
