Waterproof Shoes / Boots
« on: October 03, 2020, 03:00:25 pm »
The wet weather is upon us. My work shoes have started to leak so I’ve bought a pair of these. Best price I could find. Gore Tex 👍 https://www.shoestationdirect.co.uk/merrell-moab-2-mens-leather-gore-tex-hiking-walking-trainers/
We look at them, they look through them.

I wear similar, I much prefer the shoes to boots, lighter on my feet for the amount of walking I do in a day👍

Yep. And just give them a coat of spray on waterproofer from time to time.
It's a game of three halves!

I purchased a pair of Merrell Gore-tex fell running shoes similar to the ones you show a few months back. They stayed water tight for about four weeks which was disappointing!  I've just bought a pair of Screwfix Meteorite black leather boots on offer. I'm not into boots as I find them restrictive but these stop at the ankle and are quite lightweight. Mine are black and are sold as waterproof. Out in them tomorrow for the first time!!

I have bought. Pair of boots from Screwfix last two years, steel cap and internal steel protector in the sole, cushioned insole 40quid. I need a cushioned insole as I hE trouble with my heel, also find boots support my ankles better. Generally use Riggers in winter as they are warmer.
Cheers Rich

The best trainer type gortex shoes I’ve ever had for work are Soloman the ones with the button release as a lace, any of these shoes no matter what the make North Face Berghaus etc are not as waterproof the Soloman ones have a better gortex maaterial you’re feet stay dryer longer without the need to waterproof as much.
Any of these shoes that have a suede type outer layer are rubbish they absorb water and you’re feet start to get wet after a few weeks

I've always gone with mountain warehouse stuff.
It doesn't last long, doesn't fit particularly well and something will give to make the boots pretty much useless.
Last year I bought some Clarks Goretex leather boots. Not cheap but really comfortable and fairly waterproof.
They survived last year, with not much wear and tear (which I like).
This year they are getting some thermal insoles (to keep tootsies warm) and some Fabsil waterproofing from Screwfix.
See how we get on...

Did you get them dirty? Was speaking to a gore-tex rep a while back and he said the most common cause of leaky gear is when it gets dirty and not being cleaned properly. Like all waterproof stuff they need cleaning with nik wax and re waterproofing with nikwax too. Sounds a faff but it doesn't take long. And deffinetly works.. My soloman boots are about 5 years old now and  still waterproof 👍
