Cleaning Redbrick Building
« on: July 11, 2006, 09:13:27 pm »
Hi All,

I have been asked if I can powerhose a white powdery substance off the front of a Redbrick building.

It looks like chalk/lime  but does not hose off the brick, its like a watermark at the top of a wall.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

John

hi there

varios methods

from manual application

throught to being applied bt sprayer and pressure washed off

you have to get the mix right, to powerful ,and the acid will take the face of the brick off. thats not what you want to do.

Unfortunatlety efferfesence is caused by water bringing the natural salts in the material, either from the clay or from the manufacturing prosess to the surface. Washing off with water will get it off, but as you wetted the area an awfull lot it will most probably come out again in the future. If you look very closely you can see it's almost like small worms as the salts come out from within the brick/blocks via the small pores in the surface
I'm always in the poo, it's just the depth that varies
