Marks on Paint
« on: September 13, 2020, 12:51:49 pm »
Got this mobile home/caravan type job I do in this mobile home park. Customer I’ve had for a few years now has just cancelled due to the pure water creating runs off the window and going onto the paint below. Admittedly in her defence I did notice a slight discolouration of what looks like a dirty drip mark on the paint below (which doesn’t wash off as tried that)

I said to her there is nothing I can do about that (as didn’t want to clean it trad just for that one).

She has now cancelled saying she is getting the whole home repainted and is worried more marks will appear.

It’s bizarre as all the other homes I do I have no problem. Could it be the type of paint? She was polite enough when cancelling as she was more than happy with the windows but just concerned about more marks appearing which is fair enough........

So, just to be clear, where the water drips down you have clean lines in the dirty paint, or dirty water marks on clean paint?

I assume the finish is that 'stucco' rough finish ?

It’s dirty water runs on what looks to be clean paint. Yes that’s it that Stucco rough finish.(never knew what that was called)

I suspect it's black leeching from the window, I would tfr the frame and scrub like anything until the water runs clear that should solve the issue, as for stucco, it's a bitch to clean, best results would be tfr on a hand brush and gently rub, alternatives are black streak remover and pink stuff, the latter is a paste so don't use too much

I wouldn’t worry about it. Just let her go & move on.

It’s a caravan , hardly gonna be the type that’s a big payer. Not worth bothering about-  what’s it gonna have , 4 windows?

Not the point, could be a single window, it's someone's home,  also caravans bring in excellent extras - softwashing, gutter clearing etc.. also you tend to get a good handful if doing one on the site,

Just each to their own and perception of good service I suppose

Well they’ve sacked him and your on about scrubbing it with a hand brush and tfr. Understandable if it’s a big job but not if it’s a caravan. You’ve got to know when to walk away . No point going grovelling back to the caravan with a hand brush as he’s already been sacked and I doubt they’d pay him for this extra work as he caused it in the first place

I pointed out how to fix the problem, as it may happen again, never said grovel or go back...

You called Simon strange because he’s happy to walk away without trying to correct the problem? How can it be corrected if he doesn’t go back  ::)roll

Op said he noticed the stains - that was the time to correct, if others would prefer to just walk that's fine,  I'd like to know why,you feel correcting an error is grovelling? Is that how you treat people tat make a mistake, treat them like they are beneath you for correcting an error.

Regardless, as said I couldn't walk away leaving someone's home in worst shape than when I started ( not knocking op - but I would have cleaned the stains before moving on ) I understand others will not.

That begs a question ? is that how you think of people when they try to correct a mistake - its simple really

It’s what I would feel like , with my hand brush & tfr scrubbing away in hope they’d take me back. I never said anything about people being beneath me. You need to stop making things up

Guys it’s no big deal to me.

I just re read the op. He’s cleaned the windows & there’s some dirty run marks. I wouldn’t be going back with chemicals personally. Sod that. That’s just going way above & beyond the call of duty.

But i did knock off an old brittle trickle vent on a dormer window the other week. Went back & fitted custy a new one. Cost me about three quid. Went down well with custy. Took me 10 minutes. Arguably it wasn’t my fault as was old & brittle.  So I like to think i look after my customers Smudger. Have also knocked off plastic trim on fascias & gutters before & often siliconed them back on.

But personally, no, I wouldn’t be going back with chemicals to a caravan that’s already cancelled just because of a bit of staining.
