Gutter clearing behind Conservatory
« on: September 08, 2020, 07:39:38 pm »
I had 2 customers ask if I could clear out their Gutters as water was pouring over the gutter and also backing up the downpipe.
Both are bungalows so I got the steps out and had a look and could see where a lot of moss had blocked the gutter, cleared that and used a hand brush to sweep all the way along.
Took the swan necks off and they were completely blocked too.
On the second one I did the same but had difficulty clearing behind the Conservatory which has an apex roof. Unlike the bungalow gutters which have 4 inch openings to get a brush into the Conservatory gutters were narrow because the rigid eaves felt support tray was in the way.
I could not even get my hand into the gutter, I had some drain rods which only just fitted so tried using them but the internal gutter brackets made it very difficult.
I could only clear the first meter on each side but could not get the 3 meters in the middle cleared.

I cannot think of any other way to get the debris out. I do not own a gutter vac and maybe the nozzle would bee too big anyway.

I do these add ons because I do not have enough window cleaning work.

Anybody else with experience of this problem.

Yes, bloody horrible jobs stuff like that, why i dont generally do gutters and connys etc very much, windows is usually a lot less stressfull.

I dont know what to suggest for that particular job as i cant see it but sometimes a job just cant be done.

Did you try a screw fitting on the drain rods? The trapdoor fitting I find catches on the brackets but the screw fitting can screw into the blockage then pull it back or it will break it up so you can flush it out with a hose pipe.

I’ve even fed a hose pipe down  the gutter and washed it out

Yes I did use the double screw attachment, it would only just fit in the gutter, that tells you how restricted it is with the plastic eaves trays in the way. I was just getting stuck at every internal gutter bracket.
No way the trap door fitting would go in the gutter. I did use it on another job last week though, quite good.
The hose pipe idea might dislodge some of the moss carpet, thanks.

If poss remove the corner sections on gutter and use drain rods to push the cr@p through and out failing that get up there and use a bespoke 4 finger and thumb tool 👍

Blast it out with hose and remove the downpipes
