Which 'big Bertha' pole to buy
« on: September 07, 2020, 08:21:29 pm »
After 7 years of faithful service my Gardiner SLX47 is reaching the end of it's life sections spin like a fairground ride unless I stick a bit of tape under the clamp and then if that catches it gets stuck.
I thought 'why am I putting up with this when I've had it for 7 years stop being tight and start again'

So here's a question, which pole to buy as a replacement? Another SLX or a Phantom?

Would welcome opinions on the subject
A manager is generally someone who has been promoted to the position by someone else who didn't see them as a threat.
Hence all people are promoted to the level of their incompetence

I had a 65 foot swift for 7 years and called it big bertha as well.  It ended up as bendy as a bendy thing.  Have just bought a massive "Mavis" from Gardiner the Ultimate and wow.  Pricey though but will last for a decade I'm sure.

I've got an xtreme 47 and ive had it for around 7 or 8 years now but it only gets used 10 times a month....still plenty of life left in it yet.....

An SLX 47 must be really heavy and bendy  fully extended...I'd go with an xtreme....the ultimate will be stiffer and heavier but itll cost you A LOT more money....
price higher/work harder!

Glad i dont have any real high work, it must cost a fortune to be replacing them.

My longest pole is 39, cobbled together from old slx/clx sections. I use it maybe 6 times a month the rest of the time my slx 25 covers it.

Well unless you are using it at 35dt plus all the time I find with my extreme 47 that it's the top sections that wear the most.

Maybe buy an slx 25 and use it to replace the top 5 sections and also replace the clamps on the other sections and lacquer them?
It's a game of three halves!

Just a suggestion if pole is only spinning near the top and bottom.........cut a few inches off top and bottom. If you've had it seven years you've had your monies worth.  ;D
