Renault Traffic 1.6 SL29 on a 15 reg.
1.6  engine....120bhp....1239kg payload.....42000 miles on clock.
£8950 + VAT.
Is this a decent spec van.....the payload is good is the engine up to it at this spec?
I know diddley squat about motors.
Will be putting 500 litre tank in.

The description you have given doesn’t actually tell what spec the van is.  SL29 only means it’s the higher payload model. Think the higher spec ones are the Sportive models? 120bhp will be fine, it’s the 100bhp ones that are best avoided if you’re carrying weight.

I’d rather by a higher mileage Transporter than 1 of them they would class that as very low mileage on 1 of them,I’ve known problems with the van you’ve mentioned around that mileage to start occurring

Thats because any decent private ones are bought up by dealers. (and if you think bout it three year old privatly owned vans being put up for sale, the pools shallow),
The Renault you quoted will do everything and more for what you want,others will prefer diferent makes and it doesn't seem like a bargain on price, Look after modern vans well and most are good for 150K or more.

It's hard to find newer vehicles privately, my truck was 10 to 12k at dealers I managed to find one for £8500. Just takes patience, I wouldn't be so fixated on the make and model just get a good deal on price. Everyone will tell you their preferences based on their experience.

Personally I would  go with the 2. 0 dispatch or expert in 1400 payload for that sort of money.

I had one 2002, with the 1.9d engine, bulletproof.. Then I had a 2008 then a 2014.

All great vans, but avoid the 1.6 it's gutless and more prone to engine failures, the 2.0hdi is the one.

If he bought a transporter he couldn't afford a day off.

Funny my last van was a citroen, 2 years I had it bought for 6k and sold it on for 5.5k. It never missed a beat and never needed any work doing.

That's only because you paid well over the odds in the first place, you actually paid for that privilege in the form that you had to invest more capital to begin with.

You will have to pay a deposit
Never buy privately owned and entered

I have 2.0hdi dispatch 2005. Still works well. Only time it has been off the toad apart from annual service, was two days last year when it needed a new clutch.

Ideally like to keep it another 2 or 3 years, then I might retire.
