Why is it so difficult to teach or pickup wfp technique
« on: September 03, 2020, 05:05:20 pm »
So this has  happened with almost everyone I've employed...

You show them how to do it and then they do it a different way?  Or they try and do it the way you said but it's just not right lol

Missing the most obvious cobwebs or bird poop. Or scrubbing the top frame then not rising. Or rinsing in a fashion that just sprays water everywhere.

Do I need to stand behind him all day and hound him to death?

How do you teach or train staff and how long does it take to sink in?

I told a certain guy that we needed to rinse vents thoroughly then either avoid them if they are not dirty or clean them but allow them to drip. Whats he do?..scrub it half arsed with hardly any rinse and start to clean the glass below with obvious dirty water droplets sat above.

Why's it so stressfull  ???

id say it takes a good 12 months to get used to WFP.......and get up to a good speed without many complaints....cleaning all the different types of problem windows and knowing your work inside out.....

i still get the odd call back.... ;D......had one today.....she said ive not cleaned her velux windows(i did).....ill give her the benefit of the doubt and call back first thing to clean them again(im working down her street anyway).....about 30 mins after cleaning them we had a 10 min heavy shower here and the wind picked up...this COULD have made them dirty again or maybe i just did a bad job...they looked fine from the ground.....
price higher/work harder!

both my daughters work for me .  2 or 3 days a week each depending how busy I am
they both work very well,  and are thorough.
now for me it isnt about me making money from them as such , { although I do now they are up to speed }

when they started , I made it clear to them , that i didnt want them to work at my pace .... they were to concentrate on the method and being thorough.
If ever I felt they were working too quiclkly. I would keep an eye and pull them back.
my customers like them, and have commented how thorough they are.
it may be because over the years they have seen how hard I work to get customers and keep them, or it may just be that women are just  more  thorough when it comes to cleaning.

When training someone its always quality first speed second if you get this wrong you only end up with an employee who is only able to do more crap work faster.  ;D

Look up a guy on YouTube called NathanK, watch his videos and then do the exact opposite to what he does, you won’t go far wrong with that.

They won’t ever do as good a job as you do but I’ve had a couple with me over the years and every time they made a mistake I pulled them up on it until it got to the point they were so fed up with me spotting mistakes they made more of an effort,if they didn’t use the same technique as me I told them and they’d say I prefer doing it this way and I’d say I don’t care how you want to do it I’m paying you to do it how I tell you.
Regardless of what anyone says it takes a long time to learn what you are doing with the knowledge that you are going to drive off and leave the windows looking what I call payable,I would have someone with me for a year at least before I turned them loose on their own,it would take probably longer than that before they knew where they were driving to on there own without getting lost.
Silly quick 2 in a van with the pole 1  doing the front and a side the other doing the  back and a side, license to print money if you can get the right person and have the right work.

ideally we start on first cleans and get their quality right on those.

once they have those right and know how to check their own work we work on speeding them up.

if you cant start on first cleans work on regular cleans, but we have problems if we expect them to switch between the two before they are solid on one (if that makes sense)

we dont find the cleaning itself difficult to teach at all. just takes coaching them at the start, and building them up from there.

yes there are different types of things they will come up with, and you will get some quality issues at the start when they come up to something new, but that's to be expected.

i would say learning to coach people is a skill in itself and learning how to pick the right people, and coach them is a big part of it. something i have been learning for 10 years now and still am learning. the cleaning itself, not so hard
