New 4040 membrane
« on: September 02, 2020, 08:36:29 pm »
Hi all. My 4040 membrane brought from pure freedom is now 3 years old and I think it needs replacing as struggling to get under 100 TDS fro mover 300tds.
Question is, should I go back to PF at just over £200 +vat or is there a cheaper and as good one elsewhere?
Thanks for any advice.
Bob

I buy mine from Gaps. If you have any questions speak to June, she is great. I love PF thou but have never purchased 4040 from them.
I would suggest that thinking of changing at 100TDS would be too late with regard to the cost of resin compared to 4040. I tend to change mine at approx 30TDS but others might disagree

I would stick with Axeon membranes. The HF4 that PF is selling seems a very competitive price.

Chinese made membranes are cheaper but of lower quality and don't last as long. I believe they tend to be not good long term investments.

Our water pressure is 50psi and I will replace my Axeon 4040 membrane with another HF5. I don't run a booster pump. This membrane has been brilliant.  I fitted it in July 2012 and it's still performing at 97% efficiency. But then our water isn't as hard as yours.

I would always recommend you buy quality. Its also been my experience that quality prefilters and regular replacements of them are key to membrane longevity.

You also need to be careful who you buy membranes from. For example, Window Cleaning Warehouse advertise an Axeon HF4 at £178.45 excluding VAT. But they also advise on that page that they could supply either an Axeon or a Spectrum. They will supply a Spectrum every time in my opinion.
Then I ask the next question. Is it the same Spectrum membrane that would supply at £178.45 that they are advertising separately at £159.95?

Success is 1% inspiration, 98% perspiration and 2% attention to detail!

The older I get, the better I was ;)

I'm with you on that one Spruce,  Axeon membranes are by far the best.
