Anyone elses 3D reel leak.?
« on: August 24, 2020, 11:39:56 am »
I got mine a few weeks back after a 2 month wait. What I thought may have been a loose jubilee clip on the barb ( or the barb itself) that the microbore attaches to, its not. The leak seems to be between the feed in and the outlet barb on the spindle. I've rung WCW, they want me to send a video of the leak for the manufacturer. I can live with it for now, too busy to faff with removing and returning. It's not gushing out or anything. But would be interesting to know if anybody else on here has same issue. I imagine new product and the high demand, quality control has been compromised. Not happy when I've gone to a lot of effort for a leak free system plus of course the cost of the reel. 😒

They supply O rings for the HD although they are not the same as the originals they seem smaller,I fitted 2-3 new O rings to it and it still leaked in the end i put some plumbers tape round it and it stopped it to a degree to completely though.

Mine leaked on the inlet side for the first day. This happened on both reels but they stopped leaking without me having to do anything and haven't leaked a drop since. I think i got mine delivered the same time as yours.

I'm not sure if it's leaking whilst flow is open. I'm wondering if it's when flow stops and controller/pump remains on. Could be back pressure and as NWH suggests an o ring etc. It's difficult to determine because I have to unreel 100 meters of hose somewhere to find out. I'll have to try this and re cal the controller to see if it makes a difference.

Mine were leaking all the time no matter what the pressure. The leak was from the outside on mine. The outer on the spindle just did not appear to be water tight. The sir clip etc all looked ok but constantly dripped if you moved the inlet hose at all this made it worse.

Constructive thank you  :D
You had teething problems with yours just as I do mine. How do you know purefreedom is the best ? you have had nothing else to compare it to.
The reason for original post is to see if others have a similar problem. If so, then I've proof to back me up if manufacturer or supplier choose not to play ball.

I've ran all the hose off the reel to check.  The brass barb was pre installed with ptfe and is tight. Not leaking from there or the jubilee clip holding the microbore on. Its impossible to see where its actually leaking from without me stripping it down but the problem appears to be between the inlet and outlet but not the connections on either. There must be a bearing and washer of some sort that its leaking from .

The reel with O rings inside are not supposed to have ptfe tape round them really if you are not careful you can block the outlet holes,I wrapped the tape over the top of the O rings it still doesn’t stop it completely though.
When I first got it I never had any leaks at all not a drip that’s why I’m thinking the O rings  they supply now are different.

A mate has 4 vans with PF electric reels. They are built well. However they are larger, heavier and  bulkier than I would like. The 3D ticked the boxes for what I was wanting. Apart from the small leak I like it. I'm more than happy with its build quality in all other respects. Anything mechanical can have a defect or failure regardless which brand it is, PF included.

That’s why I like the HD perfect imo speed it reels in the size it’ll go anywhere in a van,I think the others on the market are over engineered for what we need.

It just goes to show Daz. People's opinions are subject to their experience of a product.
