Public Liability including glass cover
« on: July 17, 2020, 01:00:22 pm »
I am getting a quote from A Plan for Public Liability insurance as a traditional window cleaner and would like to be covered for damage to a customer's property, car and the materials being worked upon like glass.

Who do you recommend?

Cheers.

A plan can cover you for all the above.Speak to your broker and he will tailor your quote.

If not try Gleaming insurance but they are not cheap.

I’m not bothered about glass cover I broke 1 last year cost me 130 to replace it I have cover for the cost of big accidents like dropping something on a 100 grand car or similar lol,you must have it though if there’s people out there that don’t pay it you never know.

Thank-you, I have just asked A Plan for a quote and given my details.
I live in the east midlands and work on residential properties, nearly all bungalows, 3 houses and 1 commercial property.
Just me, no employees or plant or premises.
Is £1,000,000 cover sufficient?

I think 6M height should cover house gutters, not that I cleaned any house gutters last year.

I will look at Gleaming.

I think you should be  bothered about glass cover. I did a 'builders clean' on a nice regular customer's new extention and she said I scratched the inside glass on the massive new casement windows. The repair costs ran into a couple of thousand and my insurance sorted it out.

I had Public Liability insurance with A Plan which ran out in April 2020, it cost £73 a year, I have just got a quote and it is now £159 a year, so a 117% increase.
I am a 1 man band with a low turn over as my business is young and not helped by covid19. (commercial)

I have never made a claim on any type of insurance.
I had used A Plan for over 30 years for my vehicle insurance but use a comparison site this year and the cost was less than half.

Gleaming quoted £166 and a few of you seem to rate them so maybe I will go with them.

No because what I would have done is had a walk round with her and highlighted any imperfections in the glass and also taken photos before,Classic that is being stung by the builders for there balls ups.

I ALWAYS say you get them to get labels and all big debris off and then we will have a look sod that you’ve been had m8,the worst thing you can do is pull up to a house when a build is coming to an end with Window Cleaner written all over your van the builders rub there hands together.
I would only ever do this for existing customers cleans like this anyway I tell the customers tell the builders I won’t be responsible for any scratches label or concrete removing, like I say I’ve known builders to say to my customers do you have a window cleaner 🤣 bugger that they won’t catch me again.

I have just taken out PL insurance with Gleaming, Hiscox are the insurers.
Is Gleaming the name of the broker and they find the most appropriate insurer for the client?

10x10 panes of self supporting glass type houses they can be 2000 a time to replace at least but they don’t half take some cracking even with hot water they are 1”1/2 thick lol,are you cleaning a lot of them.
