Hypothetically,
Say you lost £1000 over this second period and you can claim £2000 with the grant, (and you do), is this not border line fraud?

no. you don't choose the amount you receive. nothing fraudulent as long as you have genuinely been effected.

I asked the question the other day when on the phone to HMRC on another subject.     They said this second grant is a lot more strict.

If you are taking the second grant and your turnover ends up higher (including the first grant added to the total) than your last three years average, you will be flagged.     So the way I see it id you have not more than 3 months off, you should not claim the second.

This is a tough call.
I’m around £400 down on June and July when compared to last year. Adversely afeected?
I’m up on the year to date though, because of the last grant.
Not decided as yet.

Would picking up loads more work because people are working from home due to covid mean you’ve been adversely affected? It’s another way of thinking about it 👍

June and 13 days of July are not counted.
You need to be adversely affected on or after the 14th of July.

Didn't say anything like that to me or in the hmrc webinar I joined.

An oversimplification but it's not about money/income.
It never was (well, not since May).

Spoke to someone today who has claimed said it was same process as last time, was not a lot stricter as someone posted earlier, told him payment would be made in 3 days as was previously

The conditions are stricter. And I reckon any follow up will be.
Be prepared, that's all.

All you greedy numptys taking a grant when you don't need it are just f***ing up the economy even more for everyone to repay for years to come.

I wish I could get it  ;D

I'm not eligible for the grant due to being a Director of a ltd company and being paid mainly in Dividends. My brother is self employed but morally couldn't bring himself to claim the first grant and just isn't interested.  He was just happy to be able to keep working.

It's not more strict at all, it even tells you there's no minimum amount you have to be affected by. If you claimed the first one then there's about 4 boxes to tick, it takes about 60 seconds to complete. Did mine Thursday, money in bank this morning.
It's a loose form of quantitative easing IMO.

Same. I’d happily take it, if I were eligible. I’ve been adversely effected and am down a few thousand due to Covid, that would be enough for me to morally accept it.

No chance will I be claiming this time round.   I claimed last time due to school contracts being put on hold along with a few other commercial jobs and Residentials.    Every thing is now back to normal now, and although a few residential customers are still on hold, I have picked up more than enough work to cover it many times over.

I was invited to claim the grant, however, this time the email made it clear to keep all documentation to prove you have been badly affected.   I like to sleep at night. and I have a feeling come next year it will come back to haunt a few.

Thanks for confirming it isn't stricter winpro as Griff states, when you have been through process and I presume he hasn't
