Think I’ll take it, straight Into savings.

Was still genuinely adversely effected in June and July, and arguably still am now, albeit only about £70 a month down.
June doesn't count; nor does a chunk of July.
It's nothing to do with how much money you're down anyway. You need to have stopped working, really.

Last paragraph is untrue.
Sentence? How so?
You need to have stopped, temporarily stopped or scaled down.

No. You need to have been adversely affected by Covid 19.
In your examples even they would only count if they were due to being adversely affected by Covid 19.
I meant stopped working due to co-vid.
You could, actually, have temporarily stopped working, due to co-vid, and still earned more; that's why it's not based on income. Losing a few jobs, a month, might not constitute being adversely affected.
Conversely, you could gain a load of new work but you could be adversely affected by co-vid.
HMRC don't have a specific definition of 'adversely affected'.
They are only giving examples and that could change.

This is the criteria HMRC are using:

The eligibility criteria remain the same as for the first grant. You will need to confirm your business has been adversely affected by coronavirus (COVID-19) at any time since 14 July.

This typically means that your business has experienced lower income and/or higher costs because of coronavirus (COVID-19) at any time since 14 July.

As the person who knows your business best, we expect you to make an honest assessment about whether it has been adversely affected. There is no minimum threshold over which your business’s income or costs need to have changed. You will need to keep a record of evidence of how your business has been adversely affected.
The key point being how you have lost income due to co-vid.

I’m sure many people have had people put them off even as we speak they don’t want the window cleaner round that must constitute as being affected,so must having to canvass or leaflet drop to try and get new business.

Not necessarily.
You could get a lot of cancellations without having to stop or scale down work due to co-vid.

I didn’t think it was income alone I thought it was other factors like being out on hold from customers and having to invest in leafleting etc to generate more work which will cost, there must be people that would have been able to earn 1000s more but haven’t due to being suspended from jobs. I haven’t looked into it at length is it purely down to income alone.

Each person makes his/her assessment and must make his/her decision whether to claim.
It's a game of three halves!

True but it won't be as straightforward as the first and it isn't to compensate for a loss of income. A loss of income could be a result of being adversely affected though.
Proving that you have been 'adversely affected' by coronavirus could be tricky.
There is no definitive definition of 'adversely affected' and it's all a bit vague; intentionally so, I think.
Good luck, to all those that claim. And to those that have said they're not claiming: we're only halfway through August.

Lots on the news this morning about this. Seems there was roughly 16,000 people overpaid like me. Also, looks like you'll be invited to claim this next grant. You can of course still apply even if you're not invited to. Be interesting to see just how many of us here get "invited" ?

Yup, and no need to be concerned about paying it back.

It's for self employed people who are genuinely suffering financially due to covid 19. Not for people who are doing reasonably ok amid this crisis exploiting a grey area and stuffing it in their savings accounts.

It’s to get the economy going. I’m all for that. I helped the tourism industry with my last payment. Next time I’ll pump some into the motor trade.

........ I even gave some to Gardiners 😮

I just got my invitation  ;D
This time around I will be looking at my turnover closely and wait for very near deadline date to apply .
Off the top of my head though I don’t see that it would be in my best interest to go for the second one !
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

It says on the email if you have been affected by Covid in  any way large or small then apply. I've  lost a few commercial jobs and a few  elderly customers who were  shielding but I've also gained a few too.  I applied yesterday and was successful just waiting for payment to come into my bank now.
Also no one knows what may happen in the months ahead as people lose their jobs because their furlough has ended etc.

Just claimed today.  Checked my records and since July 14th lost £857 of work from cancellations  and gained with new customers £155. Legitimate claim I think.

Absolutely legitimate.

I’ve a similar set of figures. My accountant told me every single self employed person he knows took the first grant, he expects the same for this final grant. Regardless of how big or small their loss was.

The fact of the matter is, if you have lost work due to the pandemic, you can legitimately claim.

Hypothetically,
Say you lost £1000 over this second period and you can claim £2000 with the grant, (and you do), is this not border line fraud?

"There is no minimum threshold over which your business’s income or costs need to have changed."

In my book that means if you spend as little as  £1 more on what you would normally purchase in pursuit of your business due to prices increasing because of covid then your eligible to claim.

If you lose any job due no matter how small due to covid then your eligible to claim.

Just make sure you keep receipts and job records.

Oh and make sure your accounts for the last 6 years are ready to hand
