Spotting on windows today due to being to hot ?
« on: June 25, 2020, 07:17:09 pm »
Hi guys.

So today obviously it was so hot was 32 degrees where i was in Kent today. I called it a day at about 12 even though was struggling in the heat lol but was more to do with spotting on the windows. Never ever have a problem with this, but the last couple of houses i done i was noticing spotting on front of the windows the back was fine as sun not hitting it but front was bad and went over them 2 times aswell and still was happening.  I get my water from spotless water aswell so knows it’s not the water, im putting this down to just being to hot and water drying to quick ?

This happen to anyone else before ?

Thanks
Edward 😀

High flow, plenty of rinsing, I use a lot more water in summer, you need to cool the glass down first.

Plenty of water hold the pole in front of you if the jets aren’t clearing 15ft away you ain’t using enough water imo,if you use hot when the weathers like this they don’t get chance to spot tbh.

i can honestly say ive never experienced this spotting problem during very hot weather...i always work with a high flow and  the temperature of my pure water is 60c+ at present...its that hot i cant hold my hand under the jets for more than 2 seconds......
price higher/work harder!

Spotting is caused by dirt being left to dry without it being rinsed off the glass, the common place for it to spot is the top right and left corners of the glass or a line down the middle under a top opener.
The better the flow and the hotter the water reduces this massively, cold users disagree I don’t want to get into hot over cold but it is a fact and the hotter the weather the more a hot system comes into its own.
The first thing you notice when switching from cold to hot is a huge reduction in spotting if any, another thing you’ll hear people say is that the frames look cleaner-whiter with hot 9 out of 10 that’s what is giving the trouble dirty frames or seals.

You can’t really say you’ll do any house and not leave the odd mark, imagine what it was like when you used to use a squeegee when the blade may have needed changing in the sun and you thought they looked great 🤣🤣.
My old man used to say to me make sure you try extra hard on the south facing windows kitchen and main bedroom coz they are the rooms that pay you lol,the worse time of the year is when the sun is low October-November.

Yep it'll happen when it's hot.

Plenty of rinsing and hope for the best, you'll always get the odd spot with wfp it's not magic.

I only use cold but definitely notice adifference in the sun on drying. after so many positive posts about difference between hot and cold definitely going to look  into it,money permitting always thinks it sounds expensive and maybe not practical as I only work from a trolley system now

There’s good traditional window cleaners and the same goes for WFP just as with a squeegee there is an art to using it,I think all of us have problem houses- windows and when you are cleaning them as quickly as most of us are you are bound to leave the odd mark. The idea I’ve found is to try and cover most bases, hot water and the lightest pole money can buy the heavier the pole the lazier you can become because with a heavy pole sometimes you haven’t got those extra scrubs in you on certain days like today 🥵.

Not as many of them around these days but the old style aluminium window frames used to be a
Nightmare at times, they would spot leach what looked like milk you name it.
Go back 6-8 weeks later same thing still leaching milk like liquid and still spotting,on certain houses you’ve either got to blade it or dump it.

Yep the ally ones are a nightmare and some upvc windows are with perished seals, old sash windows the list goes on but they can all be cleaned to a good standard with experience...

I don’t want to start a debate either but if you’d come out with me this week you’d have seen the advantages, really badly stained window sills that plants and shrubs have almost ruined hot water and I mean hot water not warm water wrapped up in a North Face jacket in your van hot removed to like new condition,if it made no difference to results or ease of use I’d turn it off or remove it from the back of my van.

Firstly as anybody with an induction hob will tell you glass doesn't conduct heat that well so it wont be hot glass that's your problem, I know this may sound obvious but have you checked that you are not seeing ingrained spotting that wouldn't normally show up when duller or if the glass is still wet when you leave ? this will have caught most of us out at one stage or another.

Glass does conduct heat though.
Not as well as metal but glass does get hot.
Cooling the window first does work.

Glass doesn’t get hot ? I think it does very hot in fact cold water just evaporates on hot glass the first couple of brushes up and down have little effect especially when it’s the kind of weather we’ve been having.

It does Griff but it would take a lot more than a hot day to make a noticeable if any difference, Iv done this boiling pan full of water next to my finger pushed onto the hob party trick with my induction hob a few times, it amazes people who don't know that glass is a poor conductor of heat.
