customer not happy with the price....
« on: June 08, 2020, 06:43:54 pm »
a long standing customer of mine has moved into a stand alone 4 bed detached property a mile away from his old house.....he paid  £700,000 for it.....it has a few ground floor large bay windows at the front(all UPVC leaded windows) and 3 upper windows,a couple of little windows either side of the house and a fairly large conservatory and 3 awkward windows over it and a large 3 storey window above that(i think ill need to get my 47 footer out for that one)......

he wants them cleaned every 12 weeks which is fine by me so i went in with a price of £40 which i think is fair for the property,i have a few similar houses along this road in the £40-£65 bracket(and they are 8 weekly!)...no first clean price either!

he nearly keeled over!he was paying £10 in the old house(3 bed semi)4 weekly which i was going to put up to £12 in april before he moved(if i get the new owners thats the price it will be).....

i tried to explain his new house is much larger and its a stand alone property on a much longer frequency and requiring my high level pole for the high window at the back......he reluctantly agreed and ill fit him in tomorrow..... ::)roll

on maintenance cleans its a 30 min job plus 5 mins driving there and 5 mins driving to my next job so 40 mins altogether........

i think ive just about won him round! ::)roll ;D......

I think that’s a very fair price.
A little bit under I would charge around the £60 mark.

Seems a fair price though, people just dont get it ive found when it comes to bigger jobs. I cleaned a house today at £15, took 15 mins..

Then she wanted her conny cleaning, i quoted £90

Jaw dropped to the floor when she asked how long it will take and i said 1 hour and a half. she said no thanks but she obviously didnt do the math...I dont get why theses people think if a job takes 6 times longer than another its not going to cost 6 times as much...

Honestly i make better money off £10 - £12 houses than i do off bigger ones, most of them can be spanked off in 5 - 10 mins, the bigger the house the tighter the wallet.

i doubt it....better the devil you know.....ive been cleaning his windows for 15+ years......the bigger the house the more paranoid  they usually are about having people around their property...i could be wrong though and lose it in a couple of months to a guy charge £30..........i dont care...its just not worth cleaning IMO for anything less...

not always........i have plenty of larger stand alone houses  (and fairly close together so hardly any driving around) as well as my run of the mill stuff and they normally dont complain about the price....i do think this one is a tight wad though! ::)roll ;D

His window cleaning bill is basically the same as it was previously in his much smaller property.  £12 per 4 weeks vs £13 per 4 weeks now, and he still isn’t happy. Dump him Daz.

I had one last year he moved down from up North though the house he moved into which I already cleaned was 900,000,he said how much I said it’ll be £50 I’ve been cleaning it for about 5 years he also nearly fell over he goes I was paying the window cleaner at my other house 15 every 6-8 weeks lol.
I wouldn’t take it personally it’s not the price it’s just how some people view it or you wouldn’t have dozens and dozens of other houses priced the same without a blink would you,I had another last week I priced they’d never been cleaned it was a new house been built on a piece of lovely land I could see from the second he came out we wouldn’t get along and he was a recommendation from 2 others I clean. I says to him when we’re they last cleaned and he said oh just before lockdown I knew that was a lie straight away,I priced him between the 2 jobs that recommended me because his house was similar I text him the price and I ain’t heard back yet lol,it’s not the price it’s how they perceive it individually.

Although we shouldn’t let it as it’s only 1 customer you do find yourself thinking about it for a while, the worse thing you can do is dramatically drop the the price to get the job that looks like you were trying it on in the first place.

honestly nigel.....i really dont care.....i never drop my price.....i dont want it to be a "grudge" clean........i have enough work that im happy with just working 20-25 hours a week.if he wants to he ll find another cheaper window cleaner.....i do occasionally lose the odd job to someone cheaper but the worst thing you can do is go in with a dirt cheap price on stand alone properties like these......their just not worth doing otherwise....

Quoted a full exterior wash down all plastics fascia, eves downpipes etc and windows on a five bed house that hadn't been cleaned in two years.
Anyway quoted £120 ( too cheap I know, I was just trying to get some quick cash in) he agreed then the night before I was due to clean it he phoned me up and said.. we'd still like you to come but we have heard that's expensive have a think about it.. see how you get on.

Yeah right.. see how you get on that means if I did it in two hours he would be gunning for a reduction in price even though we all know £120 is cheap for a filthy windowed 5 bed!

I just text him saying after some thought I'm not the man for your job, maybe you can find someone else local at a price your more comfortable with.
I really really hope he gets quotes in and ends up paying the £200 I should of charged him.

what an absolute timewaster......you probably would have been done and dusted in 2 hours......£60 an hour is a fair price for the work involved......never drop your price..........

i picked up a nice little £20 cottage today right next to a £60 job i was cleaning....took me 20 mins first clean....itll be down to 15 mins next time.....i also had a woman ask would i clean her bungalow but i said i was too busy(her 52 year old son now lives at home and he never stops chatting and following me around)...i can see me being there for at least 30 mins if he s in......they also want me to match the price of their last window cleaner(£10)she said it only used to take him 30 mins to clean them! ::)roll

absolutely no way!id have to spend 10 mins on it to make it pay at £10 a pop...... ::)roll ;D

this is the great thing when you have a well established, comfortable round.....you can pick and choose

maybe its cheap for you but im not dumping him....he paid straight away right after the clean.....its also a house near lots of other stand alone jobs so on maintenance cleans itll keep my hourly rate up into the £50-£60 an hour bracket which is where i want it....

its a good job i dont take much notice of most of you chaps isnt it? ;D
