Just a word of caution on the soft opener. I had one fitted from new on my Ranger. That failed, so they fitted two and they both failed too. Fitted by the Ford dealership. In the end I just gave up.

Yes I can imagine they will wear out with the amount of times it will be opened and closed in a day. Will see how long it lasts, I don't mind replacing it periodically if it lasts a few months.. it was only a tenner.

Could you fix a chain just a little longer than the opener so if and when if fails, it wouldn’t crash down?

Reel was temporary for a few days because my double stack reel didnt fit and the one i had ordered hadnt turned up...

Ive got a new one today



And the rest of the system was from stuff i had in the garage, it might be a bit rough but it puts water to glass as well as any...

When i sell my van (which im in the process of repairing and tidying up) ill get a custom tank and a nicer setup if thats alright with you Daz

Not quite sure where you would suggest i put the poles though, an angle on top is about the only place they will go.

Vans are obviously more practical, essential for me as I do softwashing and pressure washing, I need the room.

The verdict so far is there is not much difference between the two. The big advantage is the angle i can pull the hose and not having the doors in the way makes for easier working.

The biggest downside is not being able to hide in the back for a pee, but ive come up with a solution now although van wins for a mobile toilet.

Other than that theres nothing in it, it just boils down to space which there is plenty of for a solo operator doing windows only.

The truck is showing 25.8 mpg average in the 3 days ive used it this week solely for work. So obv dont buy one if you want economy, that said my van is showing 32mpg averaged over the last 3k miles with a mix of work and personal so the truck wont be that far behind once it starts get used for mixed driving.

So far its great just a  different driving position which you get used to.

I actually have a ‘wagon’ style lift up single door on my transit custom Adam, for the very reason you said, the angle of the hose. I love it!

Yeah, trucks can be useful, but for me it’d be totally impractical, the plan was to one day get one purely as a second work vehicle for softwashing only.

That won’t be happening for a while though.

You can get wide enclosed carriers for the roofs of 4x4s,that would be the best bet for your poles.

Think I will get the egr blank and a remap, that's supposed to be good for a couple mpg.

EGR blank is a definite, £3 and it takes two minutes, sounds better after, I don't like re-maps.

I don't know how aggressive your BFG's are but you might find you get close to 30 mpg on more road focused tyres.
I used to run Bridgestone Dueller HT on mine and they gave around another 2 mpg.
