''You should also keep any evidence that your business has been adversely affected by coronavirus such as:
dates you were unable to work due to coronavirus symptoms, shielding or caring responsibilities due to school closures''

Dear Sirs ,
My income increased  during the virus because of all the extra fascias and conservatory  cleans I had to do. It was great. However, I was adversely affected by virus symptoms for a few days. I had a terrible cough and shielded for a week. Please can I have the second instalment?
If they are a week down in turnover I’d say the claim was justified. Might easily be £1,500 revenue for some.
But if a one man band with little overheads was making that kind of money week in week out their profit would more than likely be over 50k which would make them ineligible for the grant.

Perhaps. But they would still be down. I just plucked the figure out of the air though.

I'm really surprised.....I thought I'd be affected in some way.....I'm 90% domestic/10% commercial.....

I have one £50  monthly commercial on hold for now...and 2 cancellations and 4 lost due to death/moving.....that's it.....I've replaced this work with new jobs picked up though over the last 2 months so earnings haven't been affected....
price higher/work harder!

I don’t know why you’re suprised then Daz?

If you’re only 10% commercial, then it’s not really a suprise!

 ;D

I’m more like 40% commercial, so I wasn’t suprised to see my income drop.

Dazmond, ''I have one £50  monthly commercial on hold for now...and 2 cancellations ''

So  you've been ''adversely affected''.

I’ve been adversely affected I’ve had a 50 quider put  me off but I’ve got another dozen 75 quiders up the road 🤣🤣 I don’t think it works like that somehow,it’s what’s gone in the old bank over the period I think is what counts eh.

Your having a laugh arent you?I've replaced them jobs straight away with new jobs so no drop in income.....even if I didn't replace them losing out on £70 or £80 a month is a drop in the ocean.....It wouldnt affect me one bit......certainly not 'adversely'....

To know whether or not you’ve had a huge drop in income in this job wouldn’t be known in months unless you are either fully commercial have a round of domestic customers that work for McLaren-Rolls Royce or Virgin, they ain’t daft the government window cleaners won’t see drastic changes until very end of the year that’s why they haven’t said you can claim that second grant up until next April when they know the vast majority would have reason on paper to claim lol.

Won't be you (nor me ) deciding it though. I'd expect a few follow up calls for a lot of us, its simple to do as they have our contact details. Then we'll find out exactly what constitutes the difference between being "adversley affected"  and losing a few jobs. They never asked simple "where we affected" , as they already know the answer to that.

my missus has been adversely affected........her shops been shut since the 24th march(10 weeks on tuesday)...she managed to fit a few blinds and curtains last week but cant do anything now until shes allowed to open back up hopefully on the 15th june...so shes earned around £300 in 10 weeks, she did get some grant money and she ll be claiming the second grant money no doubt......its very frustrating when shes worked hard to build a business up and to see it vanish overnight before her eyes...shes also had to pay a portion of the rent every week for 10 weeks which is still well over a grand and itll go up to full rent from the first week shes back......no way will her business go back to normal from the first week...personally i think she ll struggle for a few months but we ll see in time.......

I reckon there could be different criteria required to qualify for the second grant?
Maybe not!  Got an email from my accountant this morning, the qualifying criteria will be unchanged from the first grant.

It amazes me how people on here have already made their mind up one way or another about a grant you can't apply for till August that covers the next three months to come. I hope for your sakes your reading the tea leaves and havnt forked out on a crystal ball because their not tax deductable. Think I'll just wait till August and make a decision based on facts rather than fortune telling.

From Gov.uk.

''Your business could be adversely affected by coronavirus if, for example:

you’re unable to work because you:
are shielding
are self-isolating
are on sick leave because of coronavirus
have caring responsibilities because of coronavirus
you’ve had to scale down or temporarily stop trading because:
your supply chain has been interrupted
you have fewer or no customers or clients
your staff are unable to come in to work''

I will be claiming the 2nd grant, the money will stay in my account and if I get inspected and they want the money back they can have it.

And if they don't?
Will you be adversely affected by the end of August?

Fair enough.
Adversely affected is a contentious point for lots of us.
