Prism glasses for neck pain
« on: May 29, 2020, 12:40:25 pm »
Hey Guys. Suffering a lot with neck pain these days. Beginning to seriously affect the amount of work I can do.
A mate mentioned these types of glasses today. Had seen a window cleaner using them.
Found some on eBay marketed to mountain climbers.
Has anyone got any experience of using them or has found a way to reduce the strain on the old neck?

What heights are you cleaning at?
Are you standing at the right distance away from the house/building so your not looking up at such an angle?

There are plenty reviews on you tube about those glases which may be beneficial to watch

Thanks Nathan. Yes I stand away from the building as much as poss. I clean up to four floors but not all the time. Many days I’m doing standard three bed semis and the odd twin house etc
I have osteoarthritis in the neck which is the main problem I guess.

I get intermittent neck pain. The glasses are a real help, especially on 3rd storey. You look an idiot but better than neck pain!

I use a 25sl mist of the time. I do have an extreme 25 (I think) but another section went ping a while back and I went back to the sl.
Which glasses did you opt for? I’m going to need clear and sun protection jobs. It’s blinding at the moment.

I think this could be a good idea. I'd love to hear who uses these and how you get on. I have several neck issues as listed below.

Not particularly painful. But ...

1. I get Tinnitus - which while very difficult to diagnose and which can have many causes I think for me personally is a neck joint/jaw joint issue rather than a loud noise/hearing issue. It is worse after neck work on the pole.

2. My neck "clicks" occasionally - again - not painful but when it clicks it often worsens my tinnitus.

3. I always wear glasses and often the top rim is in my field of view so I lift my head further back thus exacerbating the problem.

4. I think my age (60) and time on the pole (15 years) may have caused a RSI type issue in my neck

5. I have decided I might drop my 4 storey work. I already have dropped FSG and Conny roofs. However, Prism specs/Dennis Taylor glasses might be the answer.
It's a game of three halves!

I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

Hi, I pretty much always wear the prism (belay) glasses for high work.
I purchased these .. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015HJ0PLM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It really makes a big difference to neck pain & strain. Especially useful on those domestic jobs
where the side window is close to a wall so would be looking up at an extreme angle.

I found the first time i used them it took maybe an hour to get fully used to it, you don't realise how much you
move your head, but you need to keep your head reasonably still and at a level angle.
It's not a massive expense and well worth having in the van.

So you don't have to look up at the glass to see the glass?

Mental.

Didn't know such a thing existed.

I think my customers would be offering me more money to come and clean their windows more often if I'd agree to wear a pair of those just for the comedy factor alone.  ;D

What happens if you need to look straight ahead when wearing them- do you have to point your head down at your feet?
