Soft wash roof clean
« on: May 26, 2020, 08:41:10 pm »
What is the best chemical to use I have a customer who wants a roof cleaned which has very little moss but quite a bit of lichen backed on. Is soft wash a good method he doesn’t want it pressure washed, can I use my backpack and spray nozzle to cover the roof it’s not high and has the perfect pitched angle to do from the ground

Cheapest and quickest will be hypo

Or if you want some pseudo green cred then pay out for algoclear - 10 times the cost and take weeks to kill off the lichen - but I will eventually get there

Backpack and spray trough your brunch you can agitate the surface at the same time for better effect

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

Totally agree with Darren , bio is expensive and I dont feel it works any better than hypo , back pack and wfp with spray or brush is ideal fir applying hypo to roof I have made up my own spraying twin nozzle system to go on the pole it will go up and down the roof and sideways works a treat

Cheers lads
Looks good that for a home made system, do you need to rinse the roof After?

Yes we rinse after as you can get white salt deposits especially this time of year , but I know some that don’t bother

No rinse with Tap  water price wise Ime guessing a scrape and treat would be around £900-1200

Ime lucky there is a farm shop 300 yards from my house I get it there £12 for 20 ltr , but you should be able to get it from farm shops , swimming pool supplies firms , or look on line but some places are very expensive , also check  the strength of it most is either 10 or 15 % strength

You’ll defo need to agitate that lichen, it won’t come off with just a softwash...

Generally speaking regardless what you use chemical wise it won’t come off straight away  Evan with a scrub most yellow/orange won’t come off but give it a few weeks or months and it will be totally free of it , but it does take time

I use to run a pool business in Florida for 20 years be careful how you transport hypo over  there it came in 2/1/2 Gallon jugs then we would put 12 jugs in a large plastic container to stop rusting the bed of our pick up trucks
