The rules where always going to get flouted more the longer we where in lockdown, its one of the reasons why the government didn't lockdown earlier.
Wouldn't it have been better to lockdown earlier?
You know, the longer you leave something, the worse it gets. Usually.
In hindsight yes. But it's too late for that now. Italy warned us, we took no notice. We now have the highest death toll in Europe, second only to the US. Restrictions will be lifted gradually because the economy demands it. Unfortunately I think that's only going to prolong it.  We've already shown as a society  we cannot be trusted to follow 'guidelines'.  We are a long way from being out of the woods. Italy on the other hand, enforced lock down, empty streets, no exercising outside or only travel to work if you can't work from home nonsense. They will recover far quicker than we are going to.

my auntie lives in spain and they ve only been allowed out once a week for 7 weeks,no exercise, nothing and their death rates still very  high.....
But not as high as ours.
And that's the point isn't it ?
We  had fair warning from our European neighbours and could see a pattern emerging yet still failed to act.
Yeah but we're not China
Yeah but we're not Italy
Yeah but we're not Spain
We're Great Britain
Well not so great now or  even have been for a long time. Been caught with our pants down and now on our knees, it's a shambles of a $hitshow  and nobody can deny we were not warned.
All nonsense, there was a guy in the UK who died of Pneumonia in November of last year who they now reckon had Corona which means when it comes to infection we could have been well ahead of the rest of Europe and just didn't know it, when this all dies down China is going to have a lot of questions to answer, plus the only reason we look so bad is unlike other countries we count everybody who dies testing positive for corona as a corona death, even though Corona may not even have played a part in their death.
How are you going to know that coronavirus didn't play a part in their death?
Have you any reason to doubt a doctor giving coronavirus as a cause or one of the causes of death?

Don't be stupid, if anything the flouting that's going on now only proves they were right not to lockdown earlier, you keep failing to grasp the simplest of things, we are all going to get this virus the lockdown was only to make sure we didn't all get it at the same time, job done.
They've abandoned the herd immunity plan. I don't know why you're still going on about that.
How could it work when they didn't have a vaccine or know enough about the virus? It put you in bed for a week so it'll kill thousands of others (though your immune system could have been weakened by a dose of the 'flu in your 20's).
The best strategy has been to hit it early and contain it. To stop the spread of it until the infection rates come right down.
It was clear weeks ago that herd immunity wasn't an option and I'm shocked that you still think it is.
Again stop talking nonsense, the fact that they're working on a vaccine shows they know it cant be contained, the plan from day one has been to slow it down.

To me, it's looking like the last week of March and you're telling me that we could have had it November.
Isn't that a long time to slow it down?

Griff your stupidity is getting boring (roll eyes) my point is when it comes to the death count all countries aren't using the same method or a level playing field.

No, up until very recently we were only counting hospitalised deaths.
Can you explain how other countries are registering deaths that might be linked to the coronavirus?

It's not a good idea to react so slowly to a highly infectious virus then, is it?

Italy, Spain and France are less densely populated than the UK.

And this is the point. When the death rate is taken in proportion to the population the figures look a lot different. Deaths per 100,000 of the population showed Belgium had the highest death rate a couple of days ago in Europe.

Interestingly, staying at home in New York state isn't stopping the virus spreading. 66% of hospital admissions were from the public staying at home and another 18% were from care-homes.  25% of all the cases admitted were African American, 24% white, 22% Hispanic or Latino and 22% other.
73% of those admitted were aged 51 and over and 96% of them had underlying health issues/conditions.
A figure for Essential service workers hasn't been given.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8293417/66-New-York-coronavirus-hospitalizations-people-staying-HOME.html

I see Sweden which continued to practice herd immunization and social distancing has seen an alarming increase in their death rates from the virus. So questions are now being asked if herd immunization was the right path they took.

Scotland have extended their lockdown for another 3 weeks.

New York is a bustling, densely populated city and they didn't take enough precautions for an incoming pandemic.
A recipe for disaster.
A densely populated city or country is a reason to react and not a reason to excuse their poor figures.
