Two cleans on the first day.  One of the houses was a £98 biggie. Nearly killed me. You can only imagine how slow I was to do the job.

I thought it was early than 2010 when you started.

You were a huge morale booster for me because it was in those days of the global financial crisis which began in Oct 2008 and I was rather anxious for the future.

I wouldn’t say any trade was completely recession proof but in going through a couple of recessions and the banking crisis this job has been great over the years, let’s hope other people don’t realise how great in the next few years eh.

How many Franchisees do you have now Vin?

Also... Why was it £98 and not 100? 😂

I started in the same year. I remember talking with a building developer after about 12 months in and he was amazed that you could grow any business quickly in a recession. Just goes to show that our industry while far from glamorous, is always in demand. Just don't tell anyone.

Five franchisees.

£98 was 50p per pane of glass plus a tenner for going. Huge place. Turned out to be a one-off as well!

What's your best /or worst memory

No individual ones shine out.

Best memories:

The incredible kindness of customers: Countless slices of cake, a fresh cooked vegetable puri, cans of drink, smiles, friendships away from the job, support, tips, overpayments, biscuits, watching kids grow, presents, letters of thanks, Christmas cards, referrals, compliments, bacon sandwiches, kind words at dark times, cups of good, strong tea.

Brilliant, utterly brilliant franchisees.

Worst memories:

The tiny handful of arguments I've had (always with customers' neighbours rather than customers).
