I didnt stop but Ive lost work as a result of Covid.

Maybe theyre now saying they didnt stop because they prefered to keep their heads below the parapet at the time and not run the gauntlet of various characters slagging them off. It was quite vitriolic on here at one time or another.
Window cleaners don't set the mood for a country though. Fortunately.
The government have to take a lot of responsibility for that. They dallied, then panicked and then the country panicked.
I'll bet any money that 77% of window cleaners on here, at least, didn't work in the days after Boris' speech.
Off course they did, I can only think of a few on here that said they weren't working, maybe 10 or so, because of the slagging it just seemed that there were more.
No, you're wrong.
A lot more than a few, or maybe 10, didn't work in the days after Boris' speech. A lot more.
We are talking about guys on here Griff, not nationwide, I cant remember more than 10 or so stating that they had stopped working but if you think there are a lot more then it shouldn't be hard for you to prove, as per usual I wont hold my breath waiting. (roll eyes)
What?
Everything that you've asked me to prove or quote I have done. Then you go silent.
I'll tell you what, I'll bet you £100 for the James Styles fund that I can name 20 people on here that didn't work for the rest of the week after Boris' speech.
Are we on?

Things are opening back up where I am, I went past a main dealer approved used that was open , an Aldi build has workers back on it , house building is resuming opposite my parents , B&Q back open , van sales I use is back open , and all the local garden centres are now open too !
Won’t be long and you will have no choice as I reckon a cut off for the 80% is on the way

There's going to be a lot of unclaimed grants.
Very admirable!

I’ll be claiming it and havent stopped.
Exactly, we are all going to have to pay for it so might as well have it.
That's not the reason for you claiming it though.
I reckon you will be asked if your business was adversely affected by coronavirus. You won't be asked do you want to claim it because your NI contributions are set to increase anyway.
I'm just preparing you so that you don't anything questionable when they contact you.

Anyway, what happened to you saying that we wouldn't get it because 'we' could continue working?
You're getting worse, I haven't lost enough work or money for me to genuinely need this handout so will claim it for the reason I stated, if it is now going to be means tested (make up your mind) then I wont get it and wont care, this also answers your last stupid question.
I never said it was means tested .
I think you will be asked if your business was adversely affected by the coronavirus. If you think yours wasn't or isn't going to be just say 'no'; in true Grange Hill style.
I don't want to encourage you to lie or to claim something for the wrong reason.

I stopped for 4 weeks and really enjoyed it!! ;D Got loads of home jobs done!
Went back last week to test the water and working this week also. Will see how it all pans out, if the risk returns to previous levels then I'll be off again without question!

Stop being an idiot Griff, I plucked 10 or so out of the air but even 20 wouldn't be classed as a lot and certainly wouldn't lead to an assumption that a lot of people on here have changed their tune and are lying.

Back to the same old drivel, (roll eyes) Iv lost around 10 customers and 1 commercial job so would this be classed as adversely effected ? plus if your business has to be adversely effected to be entitled to a claim then how isn't this being means tested ?

This is the main reason I kept working after the first week , I just have a funny feeling that a big U turn will be done .
The “ Everybody can have it “ line will change to “ You can have it once you jump through all these hoops and we have pulled your paperwork apart “
I would say that I am about 30% down since the virus hit , I have used no savings as I didn’t have any and so far have taken none of the payment holidays that are on offer , I should stay in the green so that’s good enough for me , and if any of the so called government help should materialise then I will take it !

Griff isn't being an idiot - he seems to be quite right -  there have been two posters who have put up a poll which shows that 33 didn't work straight after Boris's announcement. I didn't in the days after.

The problem is that the poll on this thread is not very good as it didn't give the option.

Off forum where I work I know by talking to window cleaners around my area that - with one dazmond like, money minded  exception - everyone stopped for at least a couple of days and then started going back towards the end of the week the lockdown announcement was made or the week after.
It's a game of three halves!

It’s all about stopping people panicking that’s all it was originally don’t worry you’ll get 3 months money this will pass then we will get back to normal, this is it’s not planned out like that now it’s going to be a lot longer than they first thought.
It being means tested didn’t even come into the equation,it was to stop immediate panicking.

It's funny that over 75% said they never stopped. Yet a few days after lockdown only 35% said that they are still working.  Two weeks later 50% said they were now working.

Some are telling porkies  :D

I like many didn’t work after Boris’ confusing speech which was left open to interpretation. Admittedly I only had the one day off,  but had it not been for the clear and concise speech from Nicola Sturgeon it might have been more.

I think you'll decide whether you have been adversely affected or not. You'll be the one applying for it.
I'm just letting you know how I think it'll happen. The fact that we'll pay it back in one way or another will be irrelevant to the government.
You could have never have stopped working but also been severely adversely affected by the lockdown.
A few have lost loads of commercial income but might not have stopped trading.
