First full week using the powerup 3D reel
« on: April 24, 2020, 02:49:44 pm »
So had it in just over a week now and am still loving it, the positives are you can’t catch the hose down the side of the reel like the previous versions, it’s very quiet reeling in with a belt rather than a chain.
It’s very easy to fix to your floor or tank etc and I really like the thumb on/off switch.
Two negatives I’ve found is one, the belt started slipping a few days in first thing in the morning then didn’t do it again but I contacted waterworks and they told me how to adjust the belt up which was easy enough and it hasn’t slipped again so far and secondly where the adjustment Allen bolt is it occasionally catches on the hose, now I’m using 100 metres of gardiner microbore and when it’s all wound on that’s when it’s very close to this adjustment bolt, I think using the reel with 100 metres of minibore would be a pain as I imagine it would be a lot thicker when all wound on the reel.
Would I buy another, absolutely 100% especially at the discounted rate they was released at.
It feels really solid and I’m sure will last a long time with the sealed bearings and abs frame.
Just bear in mind that I wouldn’t advise using minibore hose on it!

Maybe a review after a year or 18 months to give a good idea on reliability/ good + bad points?

Oh Definitely, this was just a first impression review, felt it be good for lads thinking of getting one as this is a new type of reel in terms of belt drive over the usual chain drive and frame made of abs plastic too, I do think though in 12 months I’d be shocked if there was anything negative about this reel, it feels solid and sealed bearings I don’t see too much going wrong other than belt adjustment or wear!

Is it really as slow as it's shown in the videos? The original Power up HD reel is quicker, even in their own specs. Also looks slower then the pure freedom one.

I've got a Powerful HD reel, well, I've custom built one from the hand cranked indentical reel, but I've put a 350w motor on it with 80T main sprocket and it's nearly twice as quick, at least if the video of this one shows the actual speed. I was very surprised at how slow it reels in.

What's the discounted launch price? Or is that over and done with?

Funny you say this I have both the old and new hd reels and I agree the new one is a bit slower , but don’t find it a problem still better than winding in by hand 😂😂

It's 20 seconds slower for 100m of hose Vs the PowerUp HD that's what window cleaning warehouse quotes.

Lots of pics but it's an awful job as you need to make the main sprocket to fit, you can't find the exact sprocket they use so you need to drill, align, and also align the motor and drill it to the floor or make up a custom bracket. Pain in the neck.

To be honest I’d order another HD over that new 1,to me it looks a lot more plastic and way slower. The HD will pull it in at speed round obstacles and up a long hill with ease.

The only thing you need to watch with the HD is the hose going over the sides but once you’ve had trouble and you know what to watch for it’s no problem,I can’t see a nylon belt lasting as long as my HD has even though the HD is chain driven.

What have a lot of manufacturers changed back to cam belts or timing chains.
