All you guys that are expecting to get any money of government in june seem to be 100% certain you are getting it the way i look at it is the self employed that will get it will be people that cant work ie hair dressers ,plasterers ,painter and decorators ect but we have been told we can work so why would they give us any money 😳
I'm not 100% certain that I'll get it. If I don't get it, I don't get it.
But I'm fairly certain that the government won't differentiate between all the different types of the self employed.
They already have done.
All of them? I disagree.
Some window cleaners will be treated the same as hairdressers and some window cleaners will be treated differently to other window cleaners.

The reason its safer at the moment is because everyone is staying in, so  you see no one and you feel safe. But you are in your own way just going about potentially or otherwise spreading it. People do not have a luxury of not eating or getting neccesities so they do actually have to run the gauntlet of getting some stuff and take a chance, its unavoidable.  No one forced you to go the supermarket, you're adding to the risk. Whats wrong with you that you don't understand that ? You are the actual S***t pit you describe. Just go to work and leave the supermarkets alone.

FAQ 6. How can I find out if my work is essential or not?

The government is not saying only people doing “essential” work can go to work. Anyone who cannot work from home can still go to work.

Separately, there is a list of critical workers who can still take their children to school or childcare. Provision has been prioritised for these workers.

Every worker – whether critical or not – should work from home if they can but may otherwise travel to work.

We have also asked certain businesses where people gather, such as pubs and most shops, to close. Separate guidance has been published on this.

FAQ 5. I’m not a critical worker and I can’t work from home. What should I do?

If you cannot work from home then you can still travel to work. This is consistent with the Chief Medical Officer’s advice.

Critical workers are those who can still take their children to school or childcare. This critical worker definition does not affect whether or not you can travel to work – if you are not a critical worker, you may still travel to work provided you cannot work from home.

Anyone who has symptoms or is in a household where someone has symptoms should not go to work and should self-isolate.

FAQ 4. Should I stay at home or go to work?

You may travel for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.

Certain jobs require people to travel to their place of work – for instance if they operate machinery, work in construction or manufacturing, or are delivering front line services such as train and bus drivers.

Employers and employees should discuss their working arrangements, and employers should take every possible step to facilitate their employees working from home, including providing suitable IT and equipment to enable remote working.

From the Government instructions.

4. Going to work

As set out in the section on staying at home, you can travel for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.

With the exception of the organisations covered above in the section on closing certain businesses and venues, the government has not required any other businesses to close – indeed it is important for business to carry on.

I know, Tosh - you have posted a prettier version of FAQ 6 from the government website - it's like some on here have nailed their colours to the mast and they wilfully keep their blinkers on with no reference to government direction.

Mind you - thick coppers do it too.

At work, i control my environment, my work space and therefore all is safe.
However, we all need to buy food and Im sure we all see everyone abiding by the 2m distance out side queuing up.  However, once they go inside the supermarket it becomes a different ball game and to be honest, the staff can be the worse culprits and certainly not 2m away from each other.   However, once back at the van I can decontaminate myself and all my packaged goods before taking them into my save environment at home.

In addition to those scares of shopping, you also get the baffoons who go into a supermarket, lick their hands and wipe all the produce down like that

I am fully aware that I am allowed to work.
I "CHOOSE" not to work.
1. I don't want Covid-19.
2. Wife has chronic asthma so can't risk bringing it back home to her.
3. I can afford to stay off with or without the 80% grant.
4. I'm enjoying the time off.
5. I take full responsibility for the health and wellbeing of my family, prefer to use my own judgement and utilise that to take the most appropriate course of action for me and my family.

You fancy putting your money where your mouth is (so to speak) and produce a RAMS for working amongst the public in a pandemic ?

What's reignited this?
Shopping, reasonably, is regarded as an essential journey. The forum has moved on from essential work now, hasn't it?

Why would I do that? I refer you to the government guidelines which suffice.

It's safer to be anywhere than a supermarket right now. You may have to queue keeping a 2m distance outside but inside the plan goes to pot, especially queueing to pay as people forget and naturally bunch up. I have stopped using supermarkets and use the local shops to me as everyone knows each other in our village and everyone has a greater respect for the 2m rule at all times thus making it a safer environment than a supermarket.

You took it upon yourself to add this : The government is not saying only people doing “essential” work can go to work. Anyone who cannot work from home can still go to work.
.
So explain more................ Or do you think you should NOT have added that ?

Maybe, maybe not.  A top copper has threatened to start checking supermarket baskets.

https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-uk-police-chief-threatened-to-check-shopping-trolleys-2020-4?r=US&IR=T

Is that beer really necessary?  And that chocolate?  Do you really need flavoured water?  There's water in the tap.

Hopefully they'll produce a list of approved items that constitute 'essential shopping items'.

I think that is a good point. After all you can get all you need to have a balanced diet at most corner shops. So anyone going to a large supermarket is obviously not following the spirit of government guidelines.
