But you said that was why off-licenses were allowed to remain open.

Griff's going to follow you about the forum now, posting nonsense on all of your posts.

Let's see how you like it.  ;D
No. Me and Griff are gonna set up a Go Fund Me  page with the intention of keeping YOU entertained. I suspect it'll be well funded by an anonymous Lady down Chepstow way................... ;D
All funds are welcome.
I think I got too good at it though.

But I don't think alcohol is essential

Of course it's not, unless you're an alkie or an idiot.

I'm saying booze isn't essential.

They've just got a better representative body that speaks out for their collective business needs than what window cleaners have.

Does the window cleaning federation still exist?

Possibly.
Maybe it's a compromise after they shut the pubs and restaurants. Off licences staying open was also intended to take pressure off the supermarkets. It could be seen as a way of raising the 'spirits' of the people under lockdown.
I wonder how Churchill would have gone on during the war without his 'essentials'.

Just great.

He was ex military, fought in various campaigns and displayed physical courage on the battlefield.

Like most soldiers, he'd be no stranger to deprivation and hardship.

I dunno, Tosh - Hitler was reputed to have been teetotal and he was ex-military, fought in various campaigns and displayed physical courage on the battlefield. Still didn't turn out too well for him ;)

This is a move of goalposts.

'Enduring deprivation' was the principle here.  Not outcomes.

Well if you're sure.
He might have been an alkie so that he didn't "remember the Dardanelles" though.

There was certainly something not normal about his drinking habits, but  Churchill lived till he was 90 years old and died in 1965 when the average life expectancy was 71 years old.

I seriously doubt many alcoholics live till their 90.

So he probably wasn't.

He was only one alcoholic though.
He probably would have been classed as an alcoholic using today's government guidelines. Maybe a functioning one.

No he wouldn't have.  The medical profession avoids using the word 'alcoholic', because they think there's stigma attached to it.

So it would be impossible for gov to classify anyone as an alkie when the medical profession thinks it's a dirty word.

They'll use terms like 'alcohol dependant' instead.

But with regards Churchy, there's a good essay on the subject here:

You won't read it though because you don't like knowing what you're talking about.

Avoids and impossible are very different though.
And it's 'alcohol dependent' while you're pitnicking.
I might have a look later, ta.

Well Hitler endured more deprivation than Churchill. Didn't get born into Blenheim Palace did he? Brought up in some Austro-German border post by an alcoholic father.

im surprised that some of the council gardeners are still off work....the grass is literally growing under their feet.....its getting out of control around here and its gonna take an awful lot of work to get them tidy again if it goes on until june.... ::)roll..

also fly tipping is rife........the councils should open the recycling centres again!

I cut some of the council owned grass around our house myself.
Bank holiday weekend, not much else to do and council have probably a bit on their plate.

They’ve given you a cheap house for a fair while now Daz, maybe return the favour and help them out a bit?
Sure your neighbours would appreciate the gesture as well.
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?
