No, but, they have given people who still hadn't submitted their self assessment (due on January 31st 2020) another 4 weeks to do so. I can only assume this is a deliberate move to allow the Gov more time, under less pressure to roll it all out.
It's my suspicion that because of this, we won't hear anything within this 4 week period regardless of whether you submitted your return in time or not- because there are blatantly obvious ways to navigate around this issue if you wanted to speed up the process.

I've had an email from HMRC saying they will send me (by email?) an application by the first week in June. My wife who is also self employed hasn't.
It's a game of three halves!

I received this shortly after the announcement, pretty much the same as most on here.
They won't contact us again until closer to the time so we have to be patient.  However it is unlikely they will make a phone call about these things

Careful  chaps. Lots of fraudsters pretending it's hmrc.   Both email and phone calls.

I doubt they would ever send an email starting with Dear Customer

I find it shocking that some people don’t bother to do their self assessment until the 31st of January. I usually get all my paperwork together ready for my accountant the week after April 5th!

I have not even got an email, but from the statement that was released would not expect to hear much before June. Even then it will only be to tell me that I can apply for the compensation payment.

I am not going to rely on receiving the payment, don't take anything for granted until you actually receive the money.

Are these emails legit, not everyone has received one?

I haven't had any e-mails, but updates from my accountant as recently as yesterday. It was as follows...
31st March2020

Dear Client

As promised here is an update from the government regarding financial support:-

Self Employed UPDATED

H M Revenue and Customs HAVE NOW CONFIRMED THAT YOU MUST MEET ALL THE CRITERIA BELOW IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO CLAIM THE SELF EMPLOYED 80% GRANT

*have submitted your Income Tax Self Assessment tax return for the tax year 2018-19
*traded in the tax year 2019-20
*are trading when you apply, or would be except for COVID-19
*intend to continue to trade in the tax year 2020-21
*have lost trading/partnership trading profits due to COVID-19

If clients wish to get their 19-20 personal tax returns processed and filed with H M Revenue and Customs ASAP please contact the office to arrange the delivery of your records safely and adhering to the government social distancing rules.   If you checklist has not arrived in the post by this date please continue to deliver your records and the staff member who is assigned your job can ring and go through your checklist with you over the phone to ensure we have all the relevant details.

Furloughed workers (UPDATE)

We can confirm that agency workers, zero hours and part time staff ARE covered by this scheme and their employer can make the appropriate claim on their behalf, should this be the case.

If any of our clients are intending, or have already, furloughed any or all of their workers please email their full names and dates they were furloughed into Lynne in payroll who can then make the appropriate claim on your behalf once the portal is opened by H M Revenue and Customs.  The lead time for the portal to be opened is still mid to late April 2020.

Interpret as you wish. I questioned the *traded in the tax year 2019-20 and how it was to be proved, the reply was the best way to prove it would be to submit them now, although they wouldn't be used to calculate earnings just to show proof. It may not be necessary to do that but it would be solid proof you did trade last year.

Do we have to prove we have lost money due to Covid 19?

Some choose to stay home when government advice is we can go to work.

Not trying to justify either stance, but the government could make it difficult for us to get the money.

Personally i think there are too many different circumstances for people at the moment as to why they can/can't/won't work.. for them to start questioning every individual's case.

I like mine done well before Christmas; you don't want that hanging over you when you're celebrating the birth of Jesus by eating your weight in chocolate and buying pressies.

No.

Martin Lewis said so.

At times like this  'broad brush strokes' are applied.  They haven't got the staff to finesse some kind of complicated administrative scheme.

Hence Trump's just writing out a cheque for everyone.

Our approach is a bit more subtle than that, but still very much broad brush.

No, the self employed can stay at home even when there isn't a pandemic on.
The government don't tell us when to work even if the economy needs a boost.
