Yes you should do - it’s a wage same as any other employee

Darran

Nope.

To qualify employees need to be "furloughed" which is basically a leave of absence where they cannot perform any work for the company.

A sole director doesn't qualify for the scheme as they cannot be furloughed as they have to perform administrative duties.
That sucks man. Sorry to hear that, will be so glad when all this is over and things can (hopefully) go back to normal.

Yep, but there will be thousands if not millions in hardship over the coronavirus and some a lot worse off than me.

When you think people are actually dying daily at the minute it gives you a bit of perspective.

Yea. Already picked up a walk up today as they said there wc has stopped as she was not impressed
Bloody hell those customers are brutal 😆

I have got a new customer this week for the same reason. She said her old window cleaner has decided to sit it out for 3 months, which she didn’t like because she knew we could still work.

I took that as a good sign that I was doing the right thing. When customers themselves don’t like the idea of their window cleaners needlessly interrupting the service while taking a nice fat cheque from the chancellor, it gives me even more reason to crack on.

But it was also quite sobering; we are still only in the first week! Those of us who are planning to stay off work, are you sure you will have customers to go back to in 3 months time? I wouldn’t be.

I’ve done the opposite and actually set up a what’s app group for quite a few window cleaners in town who we all get on and actually have said I will NOT take on any other window cleaners work who have decided to sit this out and would try and explain to that so called good customer to be loyal and respect their decision, wether that helps and changes their minds who knows but it won’t feel right taking someone’s work!

Shame on you for doing that Pete. Are you that desperate for new work that you’ll take the food off another mans table? How do you know he isn’t self isolating because he, his wife or child are high risk?

Not good that.

Lol!

Boo fricken’ hoo and cry me a river.

This is the reality of the situation. If you make a choice to stop working, even when the government specifically says “it is important that business continue” then, surprise surprise, some customers are going to disagree and be annoyed. That’s their right.

And as for self-isolation, well that lasts 7 or 14 days, not 3 months. self isolation .

Plus, for those on their moral high horse, think about this: I (as I’m sure most of us do) get new customers who walk up to me practically every week, which I’m sure will continue, especially with lots of people working from home right now.

Are you going to give each of them the inquisition to find out if you’re taking (as hilariously and oh-so-dramatically put) “the bread from another mans table”? No! Of course you aren’t, because that would be moronic!

I have a gardener that comes every 2 weeks to cut the grass in the summer. If he decided to just take 3 months off even though I know he’s still allowed to work, then guess what, I’ll find someone else too.

Over the last week I’ve spoken to about 5-10 customers they’ve said it’s ok for you to continue they can’t see that their particular houses would be effected because once you are in you don’t come into contact with anyone.
You don’t want to work fair enough don’t work but to say customers won’t see a WC working and after 2-3 months maybe approach him to do there’s says to me you don’t know much about people, there will be window cleaners out on Monday morning touting for work you Mark my words it’ll happen I wouldn’t be surprised if I heard it was happening.
You say people are desperate well that’s what desperate people do take food out of you’re mouth.,I agree with the post above.

This is extremely encouraging.

A new study from Imperial shows the total deaths could be lower than 7000 - less than seasonal flu.

The peak could be just a week away if true.

What we are all doing is working - just by staying at home we are saving lives.

They would have saved more lives if they’d done more about how people have shopped for food,I feel more exposed and in danger when walking round Tesco’s than I do working people are not abiding by the 2 meter rule and hardly anyone is wearing gloves or being careful.
Walked passed that anus of a shop B&M which may as well be called Bum,people with a few teeth in there heads gathering round laughing and joking within inches of each other smoking and coughing all over the next person.

Couldn’t give a monkeys if you or anybody else works or not,  that’s a decision each of us has to make, but taking another fellas work, especially considering the current situation is just low. Justify it however you like but it is.

So you take the signs from potential customers that you know little about?
What if you get the virus and can't clean the windows of your, and other window cleaners', customers? Are you sure that they will still be there for you in 3 months time?

As much as I want to protect my round and avoid an inflated tax return I've decided to down tools! Many Asian countries believe 5 metres is the minimum contact distance.i really don't think enough is known about this virus and it's transmission and the fact the jet stream has been sat on us for months now and blowing everything around only heightens my concerns. Have an awful feeling the weeks to come will reinforce my decision! Stay safe fellow shiners!!

Yes. Except this is no longer a “potential” customer, but an “actual” customer.

But to me the interesting thing was that this is an example of how a customer is thinking. They don’t have sympathy for their window cleaner sitting at home when they’re specifically permitted to work, especially when they’ve been given a fat payment from the government.

What if you get the virus and can't clean the windows of your, and other window cleaners', customers? Are you sure that they will still be there for you in 3 months time?
That’s a different situation. I was off for 10 weeks one time following spine surgery, and I didn’t lose a single customer. I emailed / texted them all explaining, and all I got back was “we understand, get well soon!”.

Actually being ill is different from staying away even though you’re not ill, and the government says you’re allowed to continue.

So, judging by that episode, if I emailed/texted saying I am sick, sorry, they’d have sympathy with that.

What if you infect them with the virus? Are you sure that they will still be there for you in 3 months time?

I don’t see how that would be possible, as I never accept cash, and I’m not posting cards for the time being (texts and emails instead)
But for the sake of argument, let’s say I did. How would anyone know it came from me? They’re much more likely to blame the supermarket, postman, neighbour, fellow dog walker etc than me, who turns up only once a month and stays outside, away from them.

So, yes, I do think they’d still be there.

That is the statement of someone who hasn't thought through what they're saying.

Even Tosh doesn't say stuff that stupid.

You sir are lower than a snakes belly!
How do you know he will be getting a nice fat cheque from the chancellor? Do you have access to his tax returns?
