how long can you survive
« on: March 25, 2020, 10:10:20 am »
How long do you think you could survive without your window cleaning income due to corona virus?

Please don't get me wrong and I'm certainly not bragging but due to hard work and the right decisions though out my life I have enough to last for many years to come.

I only get a state pension of £168 per week and I do not claim pension credit due to the amount of savings that I have,
my wife gets £500 per month on PIP due to her many illness's so between us with are about £293  per week

we don't own our home so no mortgage and our rent is £108 per week (that's full rent)  so that leaves us about £185 per week to get food, water rates, council tax, phones, sky tv etc...…. in reality that would not be enough but as I say due to our savings we could survive for many years.

I work (not at the moment due to CV) because I choose to and have never been on the dole and have always paid into the system.

Many years ago when I first got married I struggled to live due to poor wages, when I decided to go self employed back in 1975 my motto was put money away for a rainy day...……….  well guess what? that rainy day is now upon us.

My heart goes out to you shiners out there that have mortgages and young mouths to feed and I hope that things improve soon so we can all get back to normal, so I guess the moral of the story is always put money aside for a rainy day.

I feel for some this kind if situation we couldn’t really have seen coming, the only problem we normally face is weather.
This will make a long spell of snow or bad weather seem like nothing tbh.

I can survive for 2 years. No debt except mortgage and live well within my means. It's going to be painful, but not as painful as when this is all over. Everything given out, will have to be repaid.
Life used to be full of up's and downs....now i hardly ever get up a ladder :) .

Well as we know all too well from this forum, us window cleaners all earn around £3-400 a day, in about ‘6 hours on the glass’

So I expect us all to last a few years easily.

Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

I’ve always been a saver and have enough set aside to be able to pay mortgage, bills and food for a couple of years atleast.

I never actually expected the ‘rainy day’ to actually arrive but arrive it has.

I’m similar, always have savings, but also have the wife’s income as well, so we are ok.

I’ve been meaning to ask you this ages, is that you in your profile pic?

Haha no it isn’t. It’s Shane Macgowan of the Pogues, was listening to them at the time of setting up my account here 10 years ago and have never really wanted to change it.

Kind of expected it to be someone from a band, or a local comedian! Just wasn’t sure.

At a push probably a year I could pay bills IF r lass keeps her job in that time.. but it would take another year of hard graft to get me back to where I am now.

So 2 years of financial life wasted

But if we can stay healthy and alive through this then that's more that some will have managed

All well and good that some of you can live a while without wages but to be honest no one knows whats round corner take this virus for instance you might cope for six to twelve months without earning but what if something happens at end of that period n you have spent all your life savings eh anyone thought about that

I'd hope the government, and my Missus, might help me out if it's the government that stops me from working. Or get a job that the government doesn't stop.
If they don't stop me, I'll go to work.
I could even get the virus and my life savings outlive me. There's a thought.
